Network tweak?
Did you feel that? A disturbance in the force… like a million voices suddenly cried out in joy, and were suddenly silenced (while they ran speed tests)…
We are hearing anecdotal reports that Vodafone “may” have tweaked their network in the Auckland area today to improve 3G speeds on the 2100Mhz frequency. This could mean a boost in speeds for the iPhone 3G / 3GS, but for now it’s just rumour. We are currently waiting for official word from Vodafone and will post back with an update once we know what’s going on.
UPDATE: 13/08/09 08:25. Vodafone’s external communications manager Paul Brislen has advised that “[our engineers] have been doing something with the software lately, but nothing in particular that should have that kind of impact.” So…. Overactive imaginations? Coincidence? Conspiracy? Now we don’t know *what* to think, but keep us updated in the comments with your experiences.
Just done a few speedtests in Newton, Auckland.
1st – 5.9Mbps Down 0.72Mbps Up
2nd – 8.07Mbps Down 0.71Mbps Up

A wee birdie inside Vodafone told me that all will be revealed tomorrow. Even so, I'm in Mt. Wellington and while I get 800kbps on average from Vodafone today, XT is still twice as fast at 1650kbps average. But people are reporting speeds around 4000kbps, so heres hoping?

Just had a crack again today in Mt. Wellington. Twice as fast as yesterday on VF – http://www.speedtest.net/iphone/11033926.png
But I still had to turn the 3G off and then on again to get this result. If this is a sign of things to come from VF, I may have to reconsider my intentions to switch to XT once my account credit has been consumed.

I have noticed an increase this am.
Central Ham cbd 1.4 mbp[s, forrest lake 1.7 mbps but at hpme in Te Rapa 300 kbps which is faster than yesterday (115)

Up until yesterday i could consistantly get over 1Mb/s at most places in Hamilton.
Now i can't even crack 100k! Damn You!!!

I get 148kbps down and 114kbps in North Shore, Auckland. Pretty bad speed compared to what is XT getting atm. Screw Vodacrap anyway, because of crapo Indian working at call centers.
