iDisk now available for iPhone

Apple has released their official MobileMe iDisk app to the App Store. The app is great for using your iDisk on-the-go to be able to view and delete stored files from your MobileMe account.

The app is very simple and really straightforward to use. When you first launch the app you will be prompted to enter your MobileMe username and password. Once logged in you will see a list of all of the folders and files on your iDisk. From here you can now view those folders and the files within and then share them with others if you choose.

To share files, simply tap the share button on the right-hand side of the file name and choose your recipients. The app will then send an email with a link to download the file directly from your iDisk. If you want to, you can assign a password and limit the number of days the download is available to keep your files safe. As it sends a link there is no need to worry about the size of the file you are sending.

MobileMe iDisk supports all kinds of file types, including iWork, Office, PDF, Quicktime, and more, although files larger than 20MB may not be viewable.

There is an ‘i’ button (info) on the top right of the screen when viewing the file. This just gives you more information on the file but is handy if you have more than one revision of the same document uploaded.

You are not able to Upload from your iPhone to your iDisk which is a big shame, but you can delete from it, and is very useful for viewing files you have already stored. Note: deleting from the iDisk App also deletes from MobileMe, not just your iPhone, so be careful.

MobileMe iDisk is now available for free in the App Store. The app requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
