Review: Ikonic Edge Super Slim Pouch – from a woman’s perspective

Mine. All mine!

Mine. All mine!

Sorry folks, but this story is a little different to usual. Steve received an Ikonic Edge pouch to review but when it arrived I jumped upon it and claimed it as my own! However that hasty ownership decision came with a big catch, in that I now had to write my thoughts and feelings on the product! Hit the ‘read more’ link to find out how it fits in with the mystery (to men, at least) that is a woman’s handbag.

I have been madly searching for the ultimate case for my iPhone for a while now. I personally do not want to have my iPhone in a clear case all the time, after all why ruin a thing of beauty? I just want to protect it while it’s not in use or in my handbag. As most women would know, the allocated slots in handbags are usually for ‘regular’ cell phones and they are unfortunately not quite the right size to house an iPhone properly, so it’s been a mission trying to protect it up until now.

Making their mark

Making their mark

First impressions are that this case is a thing of beauty. The quality is top notch and its slim lines are in keeping with the product it’s actually housing. The pouch is manufactured from 100% serge fine grain leather and very importantly, handmade in New Zealand. It has a synthetic micro-suede scratch free internal liner that is brilliant for cleaning your iPhone on the way in and out.  Ikonic Edge offer two options of their leather pouch, the super slim classic and the super slim card. They also come in three colours – black, dark brown and tan.

The case I now have (whether Steve likes it or not) is the super slim classic without the card holder, but this is absolutely perfect for me as I would still need to use a wallet anyway to keep all my loyalty cards etc  in order in my Tardis-like handbag. But I can see a huge benefit for my husband or anyone that is streamlined in the card department or wishes to carry business cards. For my husband it would also mean all his items are in one place and less of the running around in the morning trying to find his wallet, iPhone etc. At least wherever they are they would be “lost” together! Also for those carrying it on their person it is slim lined so no bulky jacket or those nasty pant pocket bulges.

Bag of tricks

Bag of tricks

The Ikonic Edge pouch arrived beautifully packaged and enclosed in a nice black velvet pouch.  It also came with a product information card and a handy hint explaining how to get your phone in and out on first use. This was handy as the pouch was quite a tight fit at first but I have been using it for a week now and it has softened for a perfect slide motion, without losing the handy cleaning effect.

The hole story

The hole story

Steve was very quick to point out (once he finally managed to get it out of my hot little hand for a brief glimpse) that at the bottom of the pouch there are small holes for the microphone and speaker so that you can hear your phone ringing etc.

The only downsides I could really find are that the indents on the sides do not quite come down far enough to give you quick access to the mute switch, however that having been said some people may appreciate the fact that it is protecting the switch.

At $54.95 the price overall, taking into consideration the quality of the product and the lifetime it should therefore have is fair, I feel. Yes it is more expensive than those plastic see-through cases you see on TradeMe, but sometimes it is about the look (ok, truthfully it is ALWAYS about the look!) and many of those cases as well as looking cheap and nasty simply do not last so it is not even fair to make the comparison.

Overall this is a great pouch. My iPhone is now protected, yet it is in an item I am not ashamed to pull out in front of even my most fashion-conscious of friends and it definitely makes a handy, stylish handbag accessory. I am pretty sure that the colour I have (light tan) will beautifully match my dream bag which is currently sat in the window of the Louis Vuitton shop. Yes, Steve, that’s a hint! OK, a girl can only dream…!

Love that the ad to the right of this review just happens to be (at the time of writing) a Louis Vuitton advert… ahh, Google ads :-)

I bought a dark brown card holder version as a result of this review and love it. My iPhone friends are all jealous.

Was brave enough to take my iPhone with me running today as with the leather case on it was protected from moisture.

    Thanks for the great review.

Well I now have proof that the case is so thin you don’t even realise you have it.
My beloved case, with bank card in it, was put out with the recycling. Thankfully I was charging my phone at the time.
