Go get it...
Just in…. Sygic version 8.0.1 is available now with a raft of updates.
There are a number of features updated here… One of which is that it has a ‘whole new look and feel’, when I first read that I thought…nah can’t be that different, and whilst it’s not completely different it is certainly a lot fresher.
One other thing I really like is the ‘iPhone-like-keyboard’ and although not the actual iPhone keyboard it is a lot better than before (I don’t know why all the GPS apps have to use their own style keyboard when the iPhone one is excellent).

What a list!
So with a dozen updates what do you think? Is this now the cream of the crop for you? Let us know below…

Strange, I purchased Sygic around New Year, and it says my version is 8.06.. When I use it in the car, even with it plugged into the car charger, my iPhone was flat within the time to drive from Tauranga to Auckland. The charger works fine normally. The app works great, but really seems to drain the battery.
Also for the auto day night maps, it seems to be 12 hours out e.g. displays night maps during the day and day maps during the night even though the time is displayed correctly.

I have just purchased sygic and getting “address not found or empty” error for all my contacts, they work fine with Google maps, does anyone have a know fix or workaround for this? the other thing I really don’t like is having to search City, Street, Street Number this just does not work for addresses in the surrounding areas of Christchurch, I’m finding myself having to search on Google maps to workout the city i.e Selwyn district and just where that begins and ends. I’m hopping this is just learning a new product but at this stage pretty disappointed and would not recommend

@ sybec:
Hi Sybec — I had the address issue at first but figured out how to fix it. Before I explain how though, ask yourself this: do you really need this feature to work? Do you actually have contacts that you don’t know the directions to in your contacts or are you just ‘playing’ with it? If you really need to get directions to your contacts then the work around is as follows: When you add an address in your iPhone contacts app there is a field for ‘Country’ but it is covered up by the keyboard so it’s easy to miss. Edit one of your contact’s addresses and scroll the screen down slightly and you will see it. Ensure that New Zealand is selected and not something else. You will have to do this for any contact you want to get to with Sygic (but presumably you would already know how to get to most of your contacts addresses, right?). If you have entered all your addresses correctly, Sygic will then be able to bring them up.
With regards to the way you input an address, this is pretty much the universal standard for address entry in a GPS app. TomTom, Garmin, Navman, CoPilot etc etc are all the same, so it’s not a Sygic thing. It’s actually logical when you think about it – you’re narrowing down your destination one step at a time. I’ve found you don’t need to be particularly specific, e.g. if you’re going somewhere in Auckland you can just put ‘Auckland’ rather than the specific suburb of Auckland that the address is in.
You’ll get used to it. Sygic is a great GPS app so enjoy your purchase.

Hi. I have just purchased this app and it works pretty well. I have a couple of problems though.
1 the speed warnings wont work. I have ticked the “enable max speed warnings” & “enable warning sound” boxes in the advanced options but to no avail. it doesn’t display the speed limit in the upper RH corner either.
2. this seems to be a common one. it wont recognize addresses from my address book. I have ensured that New Zealand is in the country field as described above but it still wont work.
Any suggestions anybody. as i said, a good app but I find these two problems very frustrating.
Cheers.
