THE FIX:
1. Install OpenSSH though Cydia, or use an iPhone file viewer.
2. Navigate to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles or /User/Library/Operator Bundle.bundle
3. You will see the Default_Carrier_vodafone….png files, rename them .bak at the end.
4. Go to the folder /User/Library/Carrier Bundle.bundle and download the 2 .png files
5. Upload these to the folder in #3
6. Rename them to the Vodafone one.
7. Restart your phone and you have a pretty little 2deg symbol. WOW AMAZING!

Hi There, There is a very simple fix to this which will solve all your issues. As neilnz is correct, basically you are using Vodafone’s towers. So you won’t see the 2deg symbol unless you are in certain areas.

To uninstall you have to restore your iPhone. Although I would just like to say that installing the carrier bundles has no adverse affect on battery life.

The reason it shows the Vodafone logo is you are connected to a Vodafone cell tower. If you go to an area with 2Degrees coverage (using their cell towers) then it will show the 2Degrees logo. The original Vodafone file is already on the device, unless you replaced it with our one in which case you will need to restore to get the original one back. The carrier bundles remain on the device, essentially you are just adding to them.

I’m using 2degrees which works all fine on the iPhone 3GS, but the logo always show Vodafone even after a few restart and reloads.

I also cannot reload the original Vodafone file. Got an error (0xE8000050) which leads me to Apple sitre http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 which is not much of a help.

i have entered the MMS settings in my phone via the bundle, though the carrier logo doen't show, but the mms setting won't allow me to send. It gets to the end of sending the msg and then stops. Do I need to change any data settings other than the settings above? They are currently all set to off?

The voice mail 2degrees carrier settings all loaded fine. It's the logo and mms that won't work for me.

Does anyone else's 2degrees fix itunes bat file show up as green after extraction? And also not show under the itunes carrier config when trying to load it even though you've moved it to the same location as the itunea.exe file?

when I downloaded the file and moved the bat. file and put it in with the itunes file it was green, wheen I looked for the fix bundle under iphome configuration it doesn't show at all. What am I doing wrong? Have I not extrated it properly?

Hi again Dan, carrier bundle worked a treat for my Iphone 2G. Everything working sweet as. I’m EDGEing all over the place on 2 degrees now AND have a snazzy new carrier logo!

@stompy Not sure if they are compatible on 2g iPhones, but if they are then they will enable the voicemail button (you could do this manually though) and update the carrier icon. It will also add the APN for data, but you could just add this manually.

Hi there, I have my 2g iPhone on 2degrees to take advantage of the Edge speeds. Might be a dumb question but, what are the benefits (if any) that I will get if I download and install this 2degrees carrier bundle?

Dan, I think the actual problem is that where 2d don't have their own towers it's essentially roaming and therefore roaming on VF and showing the VF logo.

On the Nokia phone I have if I try using the 2d sim and collect my email it warns me saying that I'm roaming.

I've switched to the smaller VF logo so not as in your face as VodaNZ.

Anyone using an iPhone (3GS) outside of a 2degrees area and therefore using the Vodafone network managed to get the 2d logo showing?

Under Carriers I only see 'vodafone NZ'. If I put my sim card in a Nokia phone it correctly shows '2degrees' as the carrier.

Thanks for the info Dan but still no luck.
I only have a VF and a 2D sim card, both show VF on the iPhone no matter how many times I shut it down and switch sims. I guess I’ll have to live with VF showing.

@neilinnz It seems that the iPhone gets the symlinks stuck sometimes and I believe this is what is causing it.

Can you try other carriers SIMs in it doing power resets in between pulling them in and out? I just did this on mine and on one occasion the 2degrees logo stuck with my XT SIM in it, when I took the XT one out put Voda in, it was fine and showed ‘VodaNZ’. I then went back to XT and it is fine again and now shows the XT logo.

If the symlink gets stuck then it *thinks* it should use a different carrier bundle and thus shows the wrong info.

Got my 2d sim card now. I live in an area outside of 2d's own network so I guess I'll always be roaming on Vodafones network. My iPhone still says VodaNZ even with my 2d sim card in, is this normal? Or even when roaming on Voda with 2d sim should I see a 2d logo?

The alternative Vodafone one (with the logo) works for me so I guess it’s to do with the fact I’m not in a 2d own network area. Anyone else outside of the main 2d areas managed to get the 2d logo working?
Also, with the 2d sim card in the only carriers available to me are vodafone NZ and Telecom NZ, no 2degrees.

Yes, I tried all that.
Just tried powering down phone, swapping sims, power back on and then apply change to iTunes, load ipcc file, Sync phone, then reboot phone again with 2d sim in.
It still says ‘Searching….’ then pops up VodaNZ with the 2d sim card in. All the APN settings etc. look ok though, just the network logo doesn’t work for me.

@neilinnz it shouldn’t stay on VodaNZ although I have heard of this happening. I assume you have rebooted the device? Have you tried putting the SIM in and out? If all else fails try to load the bundle again.

Just got a 2degrees sim and thanks to the carrier bundle it works/looks great. But I think I will stick to XT as the data is way to high oh 2degrees

Will this not work on Mac iTunes 8.2.1? I can’t open an IPCC file.
I’ve not got new SIM yet but post above does say ‘get your iPhone ready’.

This is true, but it does depend on what you are using it for. If it’s the odd email you want to check but you mainly use calls/texts then this may be an option for people to look at.

2 Degree’s data is prohibitive at the moment so I wouldn’t bother. 2G data only and $0.50 per Megabyte!
