iPhone 3G price drop
Vodafone just tweeted a price drop for the iPhone 3G 8GB on their $80 and $130 plans. On a 24-month term the device is now priced at $199 and $0 respectively, down from $399 and $199. Note this is for the 3G (previous generation model) not the 3GS. Still interested? Hit ‘read more’ for the link and then let us know what you think in the comments.
UPDATE: My bad. There are also price drops for the 3GS in both 16GB and 32GB flavours. The 16GB drops from $599 to $399 on the $80 plan and from $399 to $199 on the $130 plan. The 32GB drops from $799 to $599 and from $599 to $399 respectively. Hit the link for more details. (Thanks, Nordy!)

They have also dropped the price of the 3gs on some plans…

Too bad Vodafone plans suck

There hasn’t been an update on the bundled iPhone tethering data, has there? I hope they don’t go and lower it, I don’t use the full 3 gigs but it’s nice to not have to think about it. Please Vodafone, don’t let me down.

It got extended, might want to check http://www.vodafone.co.nz for which month it ends on.

I hadn’t heard that and the website says October 31st 2009 is the end date:

Still I hope you’re right.

Hm, after searching through the vodafonenz twitter feed it looks like the 3gigs+1000 was previously extended until October 31st and that’s the “end of the line”. Which is odd because in some back and forth twittering when I originally signed vodafonenz made it clear to me that a new offer would be made as there had to be some sort of accommodation made for tethering. I can link to these tweets and it seems incredibly dishonest to say to potential customers that there would be some extra data allowances made for iPhone tethering once the offer expires and then not provide some new plans. Maybe Vodafone will surprise me though.

Sorry, I realize this probably isn’t the best place for this discussion (I’m not generally a forum poster but I just had some worries to get off my chest).

Don’t apologise moviemichael, this is exactly what these forums are for. Can you give me the URLs for the tweets you refer to and we’ll approach Vodafone for comment.
Not forums, comments. You know what I mean!
$130 per month fixed for 2 years is over $3K!
I moved to Telecom and am now very happy with my $12/month prepay and a lot better coverage and speed on the XT network. Living just outside of the Christchurch CBD I could never manage to use up much bandwidth anyway being stuck on slow GPRS so I took their 3GB per month offer as them kicking me whilst I was already down.

Ah, thanks for that!
Here’s one where he said that something would be coming along:

Something of course is as vague as you can be. From reading through their Twitter feed (I wish there was a way to show all a user’s tweets or a better reveal by date function) I think that they’re going to bring in a tethering and PXT add-on which will be expensive and disappointing but I’d love to be proved wrong.

I see vodfone in the gun in the news, some sweetners to woo customers? I voted with my feet last month, 3gS from Apple shop, xt prepaid, 240meg 600text=$30 a month. Bye bye voda customer since 2002. Ditto Ivan re coverage and Data speed outside of main centres.

leStar, couldnt agree more
I have been with Voda since 1997 (I think), and Telecom since b4 that, but used Voda as my “main” phone until a few mths ago. New 3Gs from Apple, and then XT sim – FAR better data and also rates
Voda lost me (never thought they would!)

Yeah, I’m on the verge of making the call between sticking with Vodafone or jumping ship to XT. I liked being able to tether when they were throwing in a decent amount of data behind it but the speeds are slow it’s not worth paying for. I’ll be making my decision in the next couple of weeks now that the extended data is up and they’ll probably start charging another ridiculous addon fee.
