Confirmed: Apple still on-course for July launch of iPhone 4 in NZ

Relax - iPhone 4 is on time

Not sure how this escaped our attention until now but in a press release entitled “iPhone 4 Sales Top 1.7 Million”, Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 4 will still launch in New Zealand by the end of July. There had been speculation that stock shortages which have plagued would-be iPhone 4 owners in the US and other territories would have a knock-on effect on the availability of the device here, much like the situation with the iPad and while it’s not unthinkable that delays could still happen, it does seem very unlikely given that this press release was issued only today with the stock shortages in full-swing and July just around the corner. Hit ‘read more’ for the full press release. Oh yeah and Apple has sold 1.7M units.…

App Preview: Sella

Sella App available now!

For some time now, iPhone users have been asking for a Trademe or Sella app. TradeMe users have been more vocal than Sella when it comes to talking about an app (and more-so why they don’t have one), perhaps due to the sheer number of TradeMe users. But little did we know that Sella have been quietly working away in the background on an app which is sure to see the folk at TradeMe snapping their pencils.

They have just submitted the app to the store and it should be live within the next few days and will be free to download. They have sent us a preview to take a look at and we’ll be doing a full review soon. Join us after the break for a quick look and a few images to whet the appetite..…

The iPhone 4 antenna problem: round-up and what you can do about it

Network issues?

If you’ve been cruising the interwebs over the past couple of days, you can’t have missed the plethora of stories, some factual and some not-so-much, about the problem with the iPhone 4′s antenna. In a nutshell: the stainless-steel rim of the iPhone 4 is actually two antennae. The two antennae are separated via notches in the rim, one of which (on the lower-left of the phone) is positioned where many people (particularly lefties) ‘bridge’ the notch with their fingers or palm. This ‘flesh-bridge’, if you’ll forgive the term, connects the two antennae and causes loss of signal. So what can be done about it? Read on.

Telecom SIMs to be updated, will enable voicemail button on iPhone

XT Voicemail Fix on V3 or Micro SIM

When iOS 4 was released to developers in beta form, the first thing we did was get to work on getting our bundles to work. Unfortunately, as you may have heard, we were unsuccessful and it meant that users lost their fancy carrier icons and the ability to use their voicemail button. Well, in an interesting turn it seems that users on XT may soon regain the functionality of that button. …

iBooks for iPhone now available

iBooks: Reading is cool again

Well, after a false start and a gap that was filled by our own Whitcoulls for a while, iBooks is now available for iPhone and iPod touch. Strangely, it doesn’t seem to want to install via the App Store on your iPhone and wants to make its grand debut by being downloaded to your Mac or PC and synced across via iTunes (Seems to download fine now). Anyway, make sure you’ve installed iOS 4, then hit the App Store to grab iBooks (it’s a free download) and claim your free copy of Winnie the Pooh.

[UPDATE] – Sadly, there it nothing but free classics in the online iBookstore right now. Hopefully this will change over the next few days. The Three Musketeers, anyone?…

Announcement: iOS 4 and our Carrier Bundles

Bugger.

Well everyone, the time is nearly upon us for iOS 4 and it is with great sadness that we have to announce that our carrier bundles no longer work with the new iOS 4. We have a copy of the stock bundles from the first beta of iOS4 and upon opening them up we have found that Apple are signing them again. Unfortunately the stock bundles haven’t changed in the public release [of iOS 4].…

Motorola Milestone coming to XT July 1… what about iPhone 4?

Motorola Milestone and Android 2.1 on XT

Telecom have just announced that they are to get the new Motorola Milestone, which runs Android 2.1 and will be available form July 1st for a RRP of $999.

This is an “exclusive” deal with Telecom, but the question on my mind now (and the reason for this post) is, does it signal the end of any glimmer of hope we may have had that Telecom will become an official iPhone carrier?

What do you think? Is this a sign of things to come or is it just another handset in the Telecom line up that will sit next to the iPhone?

I think it probably will, I hope not, but I think it will. I could be wrong but with all things taken into consideration you would have thought that Telecom and Apple would have come to some kind of agreement by now if they were going to.

Hit the read more for the full press release and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.…
