2degrees have just announced a new mobile broadband plan, and it’s insanely cheap. Providing 12GB (yes, 12!) of data that can last 180 days (6 months) for $150, the plan works out (spread over its maximum duration) as 2GB per month for $25 per month. Not only is that cheap for mobile broadband, it also undercuts the price of traditional ADSL broadband. Telecom, for example, start their ADSL offerings at $41 for 3GB.
It’s amazing what a third competitor in the mobile market has done to data pricing in the last year or so, and it’s great to see continued innovation. We can see this appealing to not just heavy mobile users, but also to lighter home users. Add in the Huawei WiFi router on offer for just $129 and you’ve got an entirely portable wireless broadband network that’s perfect for the likes of WiFi-only iPads and iPod touches.

2degrees mobile broadband just better
2degrees introduces the largest and longest lasting mobile data prepay plan in NZ
In response to customer demand for its mobile broadband products, 2degrees today introduced a 12GB mobile broadband zone Data Pack lasting a full 180 days for $150. This is the largest and longest-lasting mobile broadband product on the market, giving customers even better value and more time to enjoy mobile Internet at their fingertips.
“Some customers are using our USB modems and WiFi routers as complete replacements for their home fixed-line connections, so this new data pack is perfect for them. But it’s also great for customers that want price certainty without topping up every month. Buy it once, and enjoy mobile data for nearly six months,” says Larrie Moore, Chief Marketing Officer, 2degrees.
12GB is the largest plan on the NZ market, significantly larger than standard competitor offerings which max out at 4GB (doubling to 8GB if you exceed your cap). Lasting 180 days, this plan is also the longest lasting pre pay plan available, meaning you don’t need to sign a contract to get the best rates on the market. Quite simply at 180 days validity, and $12.50 per GB at full ulitisation, this is the best mobile broadband plan in New Zealand today.
In addition to launching the 12GB plan, 2degrees is also making launch offers permanent across their other plans. The full Mobile Broadband pricing from 2degrees is shown in the table below:
The announcement is the latest in a series of moves to increase access to mobile Internet services. In August, 2degrees launched Mobile Broadband Data Packs for use in its broadband zones located in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. In September, 2degrees launched the Huawei E5 WiFi router to complement the USB modem devices already offered on its 3G network.
The new Data Pack changes go into effect from 1 November.

At tye moment Vodafone provides 3GB for free to all iPhone plan users. Over six months that would work out 18GB(yes 18) for free. For people(including myself) who uses that instead of standard broadband is a bloody good deal. Taking into account that I am on 40$ plan I am saving A LOT. Hope vodafone will keep this offer indefinitely

I’ve been getting calls at work from 2 degrees. They want me to shift all of our mobiles to their network. Until they can offer broadband at good rates everywhere (not just the broadband zones / cities) we will be staying with a competitor.

It’s a pity VFNZ is so damn slow, in Wgtn at least. Did a test this morning with two iPhone 4′s, speedtest.net app, one on 2D, one on VFNZ.
1.5mb/s on 2D, 110kb/s on VFNZ. Such is my life…

Advantages of iPhone on Vodafone:
$40 plan gets you 3 gigs (but this could expire at any time)
Best Mates
$500 subsidy
Advantage of 2degrees
Averaged out for $59 gets you great monthly plan that you can cancel at any time + 2gigs
That monthly plan includes 120 rollover minutes and 600 txts
If only 2degrees could offer a subsidy I’d move over to them in a second… Might in the future if I choose to buy my next phone directly from Apple. The nice thing is that 2gigs a month on 2degrees also roll over too!

If 2D could only pay my contract termination fee, i would move to them same time… Just for the sake of supporting this vital competition in the small country like New Zealand.
