The good folk over at Moa Creative have created a new way for us to fuel our gambling addictions! (Lets hope not!) They have created a Lotto NZ app. This app is great because you no longer need to schedule your evenings around watching the TV or buying the newspaper. More after the break!
I always get really confused with what numbers to circle and I could never quite work out what they were talking about on the TV. So now that there’s a great app for Lotto in NZ we no longer need to worry about getting confused, or working around the schedule!
The app costs $1.29 (50% discount for a limited time – normally $2.59) from the App Store and for the convenience of having your tickets and the results with you anywhere you go I think this is really nothing at all!
This app is not yet optimized for the Retina Display or available as an iPad app, but the developer has confirmed in an email that they are working on a new version for the Retina Display in the next release but there are currently no plans of creating an iPad version.
When you launch the app you are welcomed to the latest lotto results. You have the ability to go back in time and check out the results for any draw in the past and see what the Strike and Winning Wheel results were.
The next screen is very useful for choosing your numbers wisely. I usually just choose my numbers randomly. But now with Lotto and Powerball statistics I can see which numbers I should choose to have a higher chance of winning – a very useful feature with the lotto odds. (about 1 in 3,838,380 of winning first division)
The next page is the one that really helps me! The ‘My Tickets’ page allows you to choose the draw that you want to compare numbers too. I have just chosen the current draw. (7th August)
I have chosen two random games for tonight, so we will see how I do!
Here’s the before photo of the numbers I have chosen. I used the most commonly occurring numbers.
My Results:
As you can see it circles the numbers that match – in my case I didn’t do particularly well! But, hey, there’s always next time, right? And the next… and the next…
The last page is the ‘About’ page and it has a link to a page that teaches you how to use the app. Always a plus! To be clear, this isn’t an official Lotto app – no doubt we will see one at some point, but this is a good solution in the meantime.

@ miguelwrang: Have you looked at our app? That has any New Zealand app that we are aware of and we’re constantly updating it. There are a few we still need to add to it (some of the more recent ones) but they’ll be done soon.

I forgot to add, you can't actually buy the tickets in the App. You still need to use the Lotto website or go to an outlet!
Good review. I'm always keen to hear about NZ specific apps. Is it possible for you guys to do a NZ app round up? I'm only aware of a couple of them- Subway, National Bank, etc. I'd imagine there would be plenty of interest with the recent release of the ipad and iphone 4.
