Apple Reveals new iPhone has 512mb RAM

A4

Last week at Apple’s WWDC, Apple confirmed that the new iPhone has 512 mb of RAM.

Macrumors has confirmed that the new iPhone will have 512mb of RAM, this is twice the iPad and current iPhone 3GS. A welcome boost in RAM with the potential to edit HD movies on the fly with the as yet unreleased iMovie app and the new multitasking features.

At Steve’s actual announcement he did not mention how much RAM or the clockrate of the new iPhone’s A4 processor. But it was quietly mentioned in one of the developer sessions (session 147 – eventually available on iTunes U)

What do you think of the news of a speed bump in the new iPhone?

Can’t wait to replace my 3G with this phone!!! Is it a bad sign that the apple store in Canada has changed the availability from “July” to “Coming Soon”

Yip no surprise really, seems NZ store has removed iphone4 altogether!! We won't see it here until August/September.

Makes me wonder if the ipad is still going to be released in July!

    @ commsdelta:

The iPhone has never actually been in the New Zealand store (not that i've seen, and i've looked pretty much every day) The 3GS and the iPhone page on apple.com/nz/iphone still has the iPhone 4.

I really hope they haven't pushed it's release here until August/September, be really rather annoying as I am all geared up to get one!

    Cheers,

    Allan

I think with the overwhelmiing response to the pre orders in the US. They will be filling those orders with any available stock. ie any stock that is being manufacturered for other markets. One of the great reasons to have one handset for all markets. This is of course a great problem for apple to have. It will have a positive impact on the ipad for us as it diverting sales to the iPhone and reducing the pressure on demand for the ipad. So we should see them here pretty close to release date.

    @ Joe Bunting:
I also laughed – 512MB of RAM is what my PowerBook came with back in 2005! Amazing only 5 years later the same amount of memory is in a phone! :)

The iPhone 4 will be in NZ in late July (this year lol)… I trust Apple, but hey, things do go wrong sometimes, like AT&T's preorder system crash, which is no fault of Apple's, apart from probably not breaking up with them already? But hey, at least we'll have unlocked iphone 4s and even if they take longer to reach us, that only makes the excitement and savings build up more and more :-) At least we'll have the iOS4 today to keep us busy for now :-)
