World Cup Schedule
Gooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!!
If we were to review every world cup 2010 app in the app store we would probably still be typing away long after the final whistle has blown, there are that many to choose from, free and paid from some well known trusted sports names and some not so well known. The app I have gone out on a limb with and have chosen to recommend and review is World Cup Schedule. How on earth did I pick this one over the others? read on to find out.
You want the facts and info quick: the time of the game, the venue, the up-to-date standings of the tournament and maybe even who has to lose for your team to go through. That’s exactly what you get from mahango’s world cup schedule iPhone app. The app is $1.29 from the app store and once you have it there is no excuse for missing a thing.
I tried quite a few of the free world cup apps from well know names such as ESPN, Sky Sports and BBC, some of these had video news updates, match highlights and even push notifications for goals. But then I thought: ‘what would a load of All Whites fans need goal push notification support for?’ and decided this app was the pick of the bunch. (Kidding, okay?!)
Highlight features of this app include:
Calendar view showing each day’s matches

All Matches By Day
Details on all groups

Group Tables
Profiles of all 32 countries

Team Profiles
Team and group standings

Group Standings
Full landscape support

Group Standings Landscape
Profiles of all the venues

Match Venue Details
All the scores and results as they happen will also be shown in the app so you will not miss a thing. The developers also say “much more with other features coming soon.” What these new features will be we are not sure but with the tournament starting today and Apple’s app approval schedule time is running out to update the app.
Although this app has a good array of features, there is one main reason I chose to recommend and review this app over the others available………time zone support!
Almost all of the other apps did not include time zone support and only gave match times in South African local times. For example, The mighty England will be defeating the USA in South Africa on Saturday the 12th June at 2:30pm and this is what most of the iPhone apps will display, however World Cup Schedule will display local time as per your current iPhone settings and give you the New Zealand game time of 6:30am Sunday the 13th June (Alarm is already set).

Sharing scores (Gloating), stats, winners and losers via the usual social networking sites is also an option

What say you All Whites fans? Like the app? Using another world cup app? Just what you were looking for or not worth a buck twenty-nine as the All Whites will be home after the first round? (Calm down iPhonewzealanders, it’s only a game!) Let us know in the comments what you think of the app and who you will be shouting for in the world cup.

@Paul England will win the world cup….yeah right

@ benh: Mmmmm I must have forgot to put the “All negative England comments will be removed” small print in the review
What do you think of the app?
Your no doubt correct I can’t see them winning, just the usual quarter finals, Semis at a push but hey, you have to be optimistic
@ Paul: haha, I'm actually using the "south africa tracker' and so far I'm pretty happy with it. Like World Cup Schedule it has time zone support, stadium stats and another update this morning to include player profiles. Anoter bonus is it's free and well rated.

I am using a App called World Cup. It does the trick and is quiet comprehensive in coverage as well.

Come on you all whites!!
The game started off well and then Mr Green and his butter fingers.
I hope that the coach gives him a good telling off. I hope Brazil wins the SWC2010.

Telegraph World Cup is free and has time zone support enabled by default.

@ dckiwi: Thanks for that i have just switched from the app that i was using to “Telegraph World Cup” I stayed awake to watch the match that was a draw. But must say that the NZ All whites performance was not very good. They started off well but then went down hill until the last 60 seconds. THey have a lot of word to do if they are going to confront the other two teams that are very aggressive then the Slovaks. Good start for the NZ All Whites Morale.
