Hidden keyboard gem in iOS 4

Nothing new here...

As you may or may not know, up to and including iPhone firmware 3.1.3 there has been a keyboard shortcut for adding .org, .edu and .net by pressing and holding the .com button. Unfortunately there has never been an option for foreign site extensions, such as .co.nz. Well here’s some good news and may I say something that has been a long time coming.

Hit the ‘read more’ to see what I have found.

A while back, and I am talking back in the days of the iPhone 2G, I created a keyboard hack that allowed you to insert “.co.nz” by pressing and holding the “.com” key on the iPhone keyboard.

This was an absolute nightmare to do and each time the firmware was updated I would have to re-create it. In the end I gave up trying to chase it just for the sake of not typing .co.nz.

Well, two iPhone generations later and countless numbers of updates I have just found a little gem hiding in the 4.0 keyboard.

Can you see the difference between the two screen shots.

Yes! I often have hit the {.com} button then {backspace . n z} to save typing. Roll on OS4.

Oh thank god – been waiting for that for well over a year.

By the way, is there an option in the language settings to select any non-US version of English? -ise etc. always getting changed to -ize is frustrating. ;)

Unfortunately not. It is only the mail section that has been changed to beta. The rest of MobileMe is the standard version
