iOS 4 Available Now!
Go get it folks! iOS 4 is available now from an iTunes 9.2 near you.
If you haven’t got it already then go download iTunes 9.2 and run a manual backup (right click on your iPhone/iPod touch in iTunes, hit backup). You may also want to manually back up any images if you plan on doing a restore (which we recommend).
Don’t forget our bundles don’t work with iOS 4 but you can manually set the settings by visiting this link from your iPhone or check our manual setting page here.
Just installed it? Hit up the comments and let us know what you think!
Oh and here are the direct links if anyone wants them:
- 2G iPod touch
- 3G iPod touch
- iPhone 3G
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4 (although not sure it’s needed just yet)
If you need any help on how to update checkout the screen shot below from the Apple site.

My download began the minute it came out
I love it.
Thanks iPhoneNewZealand your help is amazing and all the settings you provide are just so awesome.
Thanks Guys

Should be there… have you made sure it’s not in a folder? It was there on the Gold Master release (which we are running)…?

@ Dan: @ brycebeattie278: I have just read that its been reported that GameCentre did not make the cut in the general release. Unsure why but you are not the only one to find it missing and appears this was on purpose. Developers with Gold Master will still have it.

I can’t believe that you cannot have wallpaper on a 3G ….. WTF
Now this is forcing people to upgrade phones because clearly it is not a hardware issue. Nor can the 3g have bluetooth keyboard support or screen orientation lock.
I’ll say it again, WTF apple. I think I might buy a 3g iPad and go back to using a normal phone….

I don’t care or want wallpaper but I don’t like when a company forces upgrades upon its users citing said feature not being possible.
I have jailbroken my phone before, it can support wallpaper and bluetooth keyboards without any drop in performance.

@ Dan:
Ahhh..I did an update…is it too late to restore now? Will I simply be restoring to iOS4 as that is what is currently installed?

I’m with Plamsaglows…
As a 3G owner I think it’s ridiculous that the new OS doesn’t support bluetooth keyboard. Of course it could if Apple wanted it to. They just want you to upgrade is all. I immediately thought about jailbreaking when I read about BT Stack keyboard application, but it seems like there really isn’t a safe JB for OS 3.1.3. So I’m stuck. I still have the Dell bluetooth keyboard that I used with my N95 (which I have now sold). It really pisses me off sometimes how Apple micro-manage everything on the phone (is it their phone or MINE?) when most cellphones allow you pretty much do what you like.

New Question – When you say restore is better than update do you mean fresh install and then then restore from backup. Or… Restore and then reset everything up from scratch. I would prefer option 1.

Restore and set up everything from scratch. I tried it the other way and the problems I had came back when I restored from backup. Start a fresh install and no problems. Takes literally hours though (about three for me).

Will that mean i will lose all the game data and app data eg High scores, user data etc? This would be undesirable. Also this is on a iPod Touch 3G if this makes a difference.

How do you sync them right now? Via Microsoft Exchange or MobileMe or Google Sync or something else?

I used MobileMe on a free trial to set it up but nothing now if I did a complete restore the contacts from my xt sim would be my old non-updated ones wouldn’t they?

@ Steve:
got the same problem no game centre

Big big big problems with Mail. Failures to connect, messages not loading even though delivered by push. Google Sync now locks Auto-lock to 1 minute or something, for some silly reason I’m yet to find out.
Apps crashing etc etc.
Haven’t got time to do a full restore with clean profile yet. Might do it tomorrow. Gotta figure out how I’m gonna get my contacts back on.

Maybe silly question but has there been any "tweaks" to the Gold Master and this general release? I mean by just clicking "update" in Itunes you dont get the option to install the General Release as it detects you already have iOS4…is it worth forcing it to install the latest one or is it 100% identical
