Agreed. It would be much simpler if they could give us a yes or no outright. :(

Strange to hold the sum. That authorization can only be held for 7 days before it must drop off. Not saying they don’t do it. Just saying.

    @ rookie:

From what I understand when you place the order the "hold" the amount with the credit card company, but it isn't actually charged until the order ships. However, if you have a debit card, the amount is charged immediately. I'm sure they would simply remove the hold if the order was cancelled, and if you had been charged, it would just get refunded.

My card doesn’t have a hold for the sum – I think it held $1 initially – not sure if its still there as I’ve been out shopping since.

Ive ordered the 32gb iphone 4 off apple. Does anyone think vodafone or any other retail stores will realese the iphone 4 (without a plan) before the estimated shipping time? If so, will they cost more or less than apple? And will apple give you a full refund if you cancel order? Lastly, does anyone know how much vodafone micro sim’s are? Or is it worth cutting my sim into one? Cheers

i would think that the apple online store would get stock at the same time (or start to ship some orders) before or at the same time as vodafone, at least with apple your guaranteed one and dont have to worry about queues etc

I’m interested to know whether the estimated three-week ship time is a worst-case scenario timeframe, or whether it’s how long it will actually take to ship. I ordered my iPhone a few minutes after the Apple store’s site went live, so I gather that I got in fairly early. All previous orders from the Apple online store have shipped very quickly, so three weeks seems like an eternity to me.

I think it’s an estimate more than a worst case scenario.. it could have an error margin or +/- two days from what I imagine… as long as it doesn’t come within August I’m happy…

@Yarman, yeah, that’s what I assumed, although it’s weird that they don’t have a bunch of stock just sitting there ready to be rolled out on/close to official release day.

I went into Magnum Mac Newmarket on Friday to find all the handsets had already sold out. The guy there was cagey about how many they’d been given, and also when they were going to get more. He suggested I order from the Apple Store on Friday night and told me they been told the turnaround would be “2 – 3 days”, so seeing three weeks was a bit of a shock.

I was in New York a few weeks ago. There certainly didn’t seem to be any shortage of units in either of the two Apple Stores I went to.

Apple website has 3 weeks shipping even in the US.

Or you could get a 32GB 3GS for $100 more than the iPhone4 right now from Vodafone! :p
(I can’t believe they’re still able to sell them)

Just called the Apple Store re 3 week wait, as I am moving house on 13 August and put the address of the house I am moving to as the delivery address. A very helpful lady at the Apple Store told me that it looks like the delivery date, is at this stage, pretty accurate. They told me that an email will sent re the dispatch and if its earlier, I can call the Apple Store and they will arrange things so that the iPhone gets to the correct address (This is the first time using the Apple Store).

So, really, the “launch” on July 30th was really a bit of a crock. A handful of units that sold in a few hours, and then no more stock for weeks afterwards. Between Vodafone and Apple, this has been really poorly handled.

Can you do me, and I presume numerous others in my position a favour and let us know when you recieved yours. I am taking a punt at the alternate scenario that the retail stores get them in store sooner than it would have taken to order one through Apple. I would just be very interested to know whether that 3 weeks thing was just a consevative est. I will be kicking myself for not going down that route if they manage to turn up this week or so.

I talked to Vodafone today, the guy at their retail store said, fingers crossed, he was hoping they would get some more stock in by the end of this week. Could be good, but doesn't seem like they have any definite idea of when they will have stock at this stage.
