Steve to front media this Saturday regarding iPhone 4
Engadget report this morning that they have been invited to a press conference to be held by Apple regarding the iPhone 4.
Click here to see the live blog of the event, which starts at 5am 17/07 (NST)
It seems as if Apple are finally going to get on top of the reported signal and proximity sensor issues plaguing their new flagship device. It is unclear where the event will be held but it will be live blogged here at 5am on Saturday (10am on Friday in the US) assuming we can get a live feed.
What do you think Apple will talk about at the press conference? Let us know in the comments below.

A delayed world release….. It is our worst nightmare but anything is possible.

Yeah will be worldwide release delay along the lines of “we make amazing products and won’t let this bad press tarnish that so are halting production until we can prove once and for all there is no issue”

Why would they present to Engadget and co for a delayed world release, seems a bit OTT for that considering they are generally only worried about what happens in the US (Apple that is).
Having said that who would know. Apple are very fickle at the moment.

It’ll be Steve doing the death grip for 5 minutes with no impact to the phone then walking off the stage.

This will be about the antenna issues. Whether they will say that there are no issues and attempt to prove it to the media or whether they are going to fess up and offer some kind of solution or compensation (free bumpers for all?) I don’t know… but it could also be the perfect excuse for them to delay the launch for other territories.

Mmmmm interesting. The way I see it 4 things could be on the agenda.
iPad rest of the world release – Does not really warrant a press conference
iPhone 4 rest of world release confirmation – Again maybe but doesn’t really warrant a press conference
iPhone 4 rest of world delay – Possibly
iPhone 4 Recall – This is the rumor at the moment and to me the only thing that warrants a full blown press conference
The press conference was obviously planned before the release of IOS BETA 4.1 today, so maybe they have admitted defeat as far as a software fix goes and are going to admit to a hardware fault.
Either way should be very interesting and does not sound like good news for Apple, as always just pure speculation though. We’ll see.

NZ online Apple store goes down during the press release ………It’s good news!
5am on Saturday though ……not sure I will be making that one.

A delay which means a 100% product or an improved iPhone 4 will be welcome
… not that I’m bothered by the whole antenna issue anyway… people moan too much!!

it could be a few things
iOS4.1 going live,
what it means for users
the white Iphone4, going live world wide.
talking about the antenna issue,
showing people how not to hold the phone.
compo for customers, Bumpers
i think, i Recall of the phones is out of the question,
it will cost to much for apple to do it.
how meny Iphones have shipped since it went live?
over 5000???
can you even think about a recall on that scale
its not just the USA, but Japan, UK etc
could also be a Ipad talk?

)
they gu(who was really nice
said they are just as in the dark as we are.
at this stage, they have a date for late july.
but he is not sure, if that date is pre order start, a delay notice, or even if thats when they will go on sale
as far as he knows, there is no date for it to go on sale whats so ever.
could be late july
could be next month
i think this media thing on saturday is bad news….

@ kiwiboi22:
I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that the guy at 0800myapple didn’t know anything — Apple are so super-secret that not even their own employees are given any advance notice of anything. This is so much the case that in the States when the iPad went on sale in the Apple retail stores, nobody at the stores (not even the general managers) had ever seen one, handled one or even knew anything about them beyond what Jobs had said at the keynote until the minute the doors opened. That’s how they almost never have any product leaks (but alcohol put pay to that with the iPhone4). I would imagine that the only people that know what is going to be announced on Saturday right now would be Steve Jobs and the senior executive team in Cupertino.
I guarantee they would not be calling a press conference *just* to announce a delay with the international launch of the iPhone. A delay may be a *consequence* of whatever is announced, but it will be bigger than that.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or if the Geniuses that work for Apple in NZ are really not that much of Geniuses… last year before the iPhone 3Gs came out I went to ask them if the iPhone 3Gs will do video calling and the one I asked had to ask someone else who also had to ask someone else… I think they need to have more training and be better informed about Apple products and they should really get Apple products to play with and get familiar with before they’re officially out for sale…. so basically, I wouldn’t worry too much about whatever 0800 MY APPLE staff say, because… they don’t know!
I don’t think there will be a delay. The announcement will sure have something to do with the Antenna issue plus the other issues which, in my opinion, do exist alright, but have been blown way out of proportion. I mean WAAAAAY out of proportion…
I know I will be up early to get live feed or news about the conference
COME SATURDAY COME!!!

My guess…
He’ll reiterate that the antenna problem is a software fault in how the bars are displayed, and that the fix is now available in iOS 4.1 (currently available to devs).
Then rant about how well the iphone 4 and ipad are selling (maybe they hit 4 mill ipads sold in 4 months?).
Then release date & price for 3rd tier counties (NZ etc), or that they’ve been delayed due to lack of stock (again).
Or he’ll demonstrate the “correct” way to hold a phone. Who knows? It could be anything.

I think they'll address the "media" community. Instead of saying very little.

@ Dan: Oh yeah fair call, I meant that the conference will be about the antenna "non issue" and as a result at the end of that, they will delay the release to the rest of the world (if they even remember we are waiting..for this and and iPad) "what about us" gets heard as "what do you mean what about US..United States has the Iproduct" haha

I couldnt help myself…maybe this is straight from the Vodafone PR handbook and we are going to see them announce that they will have an announcement on the White iPhone 4, World Release and antenna issue at a later date. Nothing more to see here folks..thanks for coming. hahaha

Yup .. agree with Camtab..
I doubt we wil see the iphone 4 before September… especially if there are recalls.. I hope I am wrong.
Would be nice if somebody somewhere in Apple remembered that the Technology backwaters (NZ etc) still would like the iPad. I guess that may get a mention in there just to try and take at least some people's eye off the iPhone prize but I guess Apple doesn't really care about anything outside the US.. it is just kind of icing on the cake to them unfortunately and little old NZ makes up about a 1/100th of a smartie on the top

July 23
No preorders
No recalls
More announcements of announcements
(kanz has made 32 comments)
I'm guessing Apple fess up to the antenna issue being a design flaw and announce a delay… So much for their fastest roll out ever…
