Only black?
iOS fansite, ModMyi, has published what seems to be an internal memo from AT&T to their staff regarding the launch of the iPhone 4.
It appears that only the black version of the iPhone 4 will be available to customers at launch and via pre-orders. It is unclear at this stage why the restrictions have been imposed, but AT&T say that the white versions of the iPhone 4 will be coming “late summer” in the US. Check it out after the ‘read more’.

While possible, it seems unlikely that such restrictions imposed in the US will affect the New Zealand launch, as they will most likely have ample supply of both colour devices by then.

I’m definitely going for white, both for myself and my Wife!… but… if it’s gonna be a long wait before white is out then I might just succumb to the black… sigh… or maybe I’ll wait and just get more time to save up!
I think it’ll be available in both colors in NZ though, as this All Black color is, in my opinion, AT&T’s way of doing business.. and shouldn’t necessarily be the case in all regions. Wallahu aalam.

Mak – I was actually coming to this site after reading about the black only at launch, to ask if this was the “underlying factor” you couldn’t go into when discussing selling your Iphone 3GS? Assumed you may have had the heads up and this would add value to your white 3GS? I take it this wasn’t the “factor” so now intrigued…

I currently have a white 3GS but I must say, I’ll definitely be getting the black this time around. On the 3GS only the back is white and that looks good with the fingerprints showing less than they do on the black, but with the iPhone 4 I just can’t get my head around the front being white, too. On the current iPhone with the screen switched off it all blends into one and looks sleek – with the white when the screen is off it just looks… odd. I think the white could be really distracting when viewing photos, videos etc. It’s a bit of an odd design choice and looks like a bit of a throw-back to the white iMacs / eMac of yesteryear. Just my two cents…

Iphone 4 contract free price just released on the apple uk store,
16GB 499pounds and
32GB is 599pounds
With the current exchange rates and inclusion for changes in GST (England being 15% and NZ being 12.5% for the moment) works out to be $1033NZD for 16GB and 32GB $1240. Could potentially see a drop of up to $100 on the old 3Gs prices by the time they've rounded up etc, that is if the prices are the same across currencies!
How likely is this to happen? Or will the have the same prices as they were before, $1150 and $1350?

The apple store went down (internationally) and now back up for Pre-Orders for those countries that are getting the Iphone 4 but interesting to note that the NZ store (and Aussie) now has a 8GB 3GS with iOS4 already installed. Is that a misprint..should it be 3G (not S)?? or have they just released an 8GB 3GS and I missed that announcement? The 16 and 32GB dont have iOS4 pre-installed
