BOOM!
Here’s a quick look at a simple but fun new game from kiwi developer Ivan Mackintosh. We’ve also got four copies of it up for grabs so read on for your chance to win.

Cleared for take-off
Doodle Blitz plays like a cross between Space Invaders and Rampage but with a look and feel that is somewhere between LittleBigPlanet and those annoying Slingshot adverts with the doodley guy on the motorbike. The premise is simple: you’re in a plane above a city. Every time the plane travels from the left of the screen to the right, its altitude decreases. Your job is to drop bombs (one-at-a-time) to level the buildings below before your plane hits into them and results in the firey death of your pilot.

Is it a bird? No! Is it a plane? Yes. Yes it is.
I’m not sure I’m completely comfortable with the premise of the game — set in World War II and carrying out ‘the blitz’ (which was a German operation in which they levelled much of the Allied territory, particularly Britain), I can’t say I’m exactly feeling it for my little Nazi ‘hero’ when he smacks into the side of a building! But silly niggles aside, it’s a perfectly fun little game with charming animation and graphical style. Complete a mission and you’re treated to a loop-the-loop across your graph-paper sky, but that graph paper isn’t there just for artistic expression; it’s how you line up your plane and building before you tap to release your bomb.
The levels get progressively harder as you might expect – the plane goes faster and the buildings get higher and more plentiful, so it keeps you on your toes. A scoreboard is present that uses the increasingly-ubiquitous OpenFeint platform, so you can see how your skills measure up against your friends’.
