Ducked Up! Game Icon
New Zealand iPhone developers AlphaSprite have kindly provided me with a key to their latest iPhone game, Ducked Up!.
We all love hearing about successful New Zealand developers, so read on for more info about this game!
It’s an amazingly simple game, the objective is to get the duckies from one tube to another, while avoiding the dangers that lie in the way. However simple this may sound, the game is actually quite hard!

Ducked Up! Menu
First you start off with some basic levels that teach you how to control the vortices and what to avoid. Very quickly the game throws you in the deep end with buttons to push, bombs to avoid, and labyrinths of pipes. To move the duckies and other objects around the screen you use controls called vortices, they are basically spinning circles that spit the items out in whatever direction you point the arrow.
And if you do touch a sharp end:
Normally I would play a game like this sitting on the bus on the way to work, however, now that I have a car, most of my gaming time is confined to the time I get home until around 1 to 2 am. But this game kept me up last night until around 3.30, it’s just that addictive! But don’t let that put you off, this game is well worth the $1.59.
Now, a little about the company, AlphaSprite is just two guys, Angus and Andrew, from New Zealand who want to create “unique and rewarding iPhone gaming experiences.” I believe they have done just that with Ducked Up!. In fact, I even went to iTunes and bought their other game, Salmon Rush.
If you want a game that will keep you going for ages (I am nowhere near finished) then I highly recommend this app!

So that means that app codes work in the NZ store now? It’s been a while since I looked into it but last I heard the codes that developers can generate to give their app away only worked in the US store.

@ Craig: Before the winners were posted up it stated in the Terms & Conditions that it was for the US store only.

Damn, I had really hoped Apple had sorted that by now. When my app is done I was going to give away a bunch o' vouchers to Kiwis.

Yeah, US only. I had to set up an account to redeem the code, but I now have my phone (and mac) authorised by both NZ and US accounts.

@ Craig: Not if you are using a redemption code for an app or US iTunes gift card.

Thanks Dan, I’m going to sign up now. I’ve missed out on apps before because the developers only saw as far as the pacific coast. Now I can send myself a US code for my app, use it to open an account and then get access to US only free apps.

@ Craig: When you do that can you take some screen shots of the part after you input the redemption code and email them to me so I can update the link above with some more images?

I’ve got the screen shots but it’s just an address and credit card page, not really much to show.

Did you need an American credit card to get a US iTunes account?

Some good help from apple too on setting up an account without a credit card;
