Not so orsome news
British online tech publication The Register have posted an interesting piece involving New Zealand iPhone developer Orsome and AdMob advertising. An advert embedded into the free version of Orsome’s Bubblewrap game featured an AdMob advert which, when clicked, dialled a premium-rate phone number without warning which has racked up large bills for some unsuspecting British users of the app. It’s an interesting read and the first we’ve heard of the bogus practice that was once commonplace on dial-up internet connections. Read on for the link. [Thanks for the heads-up, Ivan]

Peter here from Orsome. Hopefully your readers will read the linked article and see the problem wasn’t as bad as the headline suggested. It was an issue that targeted any program that used the adMob network on a certain version of the OS, and not something particularly at fault with the Bubblewrap game at all, and was only singled out due to it being so popular out there, and perhaps by my involvement to make sure things were resolved. Thankfully it didn’t become a widespread issue, and was solved before the story even went to print.
