It's nearly here!
Finally after much waiting and much speculation, We now have (some) pricing for the iPhone 4! In a press release issued this morning, Apple have confirmed that the phone will launch in New Zealand this Friday as planned, priced from $1099 for the 16GB version. The price of the 32GB model is not confirmed in the press release but I would imagine the Apple site will be updated with that price shortly. No pre-order facility has been announced.

Hey guys,
I am worried that on the launch date, it would be limited stocks. Will Authorized & Premium sellers such as JB Hi-fi, Bond-Bond, or even Magnum Mac would sell iPhone 4 without a plan ?
Thanks for your help.

32GB will be in the market shortly after launch, price close to what’s been rumored. Should be some more info in the media tomorrow.

@ alebar14:
Who knows for sure, but remember only a few retailers had the iPhone 3Gs, and eventually all but the Apple store ended up needing a “plan” (DSE stopped selling them outright).
I’d stick to MagnumMac and Apple.co.nz (unless you are a Vodafone lover of course)

@ Topes: You speaking from actual insight or assumption? A lot of people dying for information here so nice to know if you have stumbled across some facts or just your opinion? Your post suggests that the 32GB model wont me available on Friday

@ alebar14:
There will be an ample amount of authorised resellers (particularly Magnum Mac) that will sell the iPhone 4 outright (no plan, no carrier).
A lot of potential buyers will be put off by the antenna issues so take that into account (decreased demand).
Also, has anyone seen this yet? iPhone to be sold in Canada factory unlocked. CAD$779 for the 32GB and CAD$659 for the 16GB (iPhone 4). If anyone wants to do a bit of math could compare the ratio between 16GB:32GB in Canada to more accurately predict the 32GB price over here.

I spoke to my friend today and he said he visited a Vodafone store in Auckland (he works next to it in another retailer (keeping name disclosed for his safety lol) and they are good buddies) & that he had the following to share with me.
a) the black 16Gb & 32GB iPhones are out the back waiting to be sold. (no white)
b) you can only buy on contract – no prepay over-the-counter sales. But get this – you can buy the iPhone with ANY plan; it doesn’t have to be a specific iPhone plan.
c) the guys at the store predicted that the plans/pricing would be released by Vodafone tomorrow morning.
This is all speculation at this point, but I trust my friend, so I’m confident that the iPhones have arrived – but the store workers may have been talking out of their ass when they said any plan. But then again, to be able to buy on ANY contract is fantastic of Vodafone if they go ahead with it!

I just received an email from Telstra (I was with them before we came back to New Zealand) with full details of their plans (the $49 cap and paying $299 for the phone would be what I would be doing if I was still there!!) and a list of the stores that are opening at midnight…

*sigh* – It’s good to be home, but I do miss those Aussie mobile plans…

I see a lot of people are happy with the price and I’m not sure if I agree.
I don’t see why our iPhone 4 prices aren’t as closely matched to the iPad prices as elsewhere.
32GB WiFi = 16GB iPhone 4 & 32GB WiFi+3G = 32GB iPhone 4
That’s the case for the UK, Canada is close $10 premium on the 16GB iPhone 4 over the iPad.
There’s no way the economies of scale and smaller shipping volume per unit should have our iPhone 4 prices closer to this instead of the $120 premium we look to be paying.
As people have said, it is better than our round with the 3GS, when we had to eat the “NZ’s far away / GST” reasoning. This time though we can actually compare Apples with Apples in the iPad/iPhone.

@ B Gallagher:
I hope so too. I’ve been on prepay for 6 years and I’m not considering changing to plan. I’m happy with Vodafone’s prepay service, especially since they give me freebies every month or 2.
Also, no, I’m pretty sure that you can ONLY buy the iPhone on an iPhone plan (well you could last year with the 3Gs release) & last year at release time you couldn’t buy prepay over the counter either.

Curse the lack of an edit button… You all will be smart enough to know what I mean.

@ lakeview01:
Na, Vodafone don’t lock any handsets. They’ll have the subsidy if you sign a contract thing but you won’t be obliged to use VFNZ as your carrier.

will magnum mac have iphone 4 on release day??

At that price, think I might have to line up on Friday morning and get one.. I'm happy with my 16GB 3GS at the moment so will probably just get the 16.
Love it how Vodafone still have nothing up on their site, maybe they will put something up about 10:30am after they have their smoko..

You are down, wounded guts hurting and ripped open by the other Telco’s announcing their intentions. Your saving grace being that Vodafone NZ and AUS in same boat when BOOM…salt rubbed in http://blog.vodafone.com.au/blog/news/vodafone-releases-iphone-pricing/
Right, I know my place in Vodafone NZ’s eyes so energy focused on Friday and they can do what they like for all I care…announce your plans on Saturday haha

That’s so depressing. $99 per month for *unlimited* calls. Nope, I didn’t see that.
I’m just gonna tell myself it’s a hallucination so I can continue living in this paradise of low wages, cold weather and insane cellphone charges.

$899 for the 8GB 3GS, $1099 for the 16GB… $1299 for the 32GB then? What do you guys think?

No wonder so many Kiwis moved to Australia over the past 3 years.
