it's Official
Tracking your parcels via your iPhone seems like such an obvious thing to be able to do. Previously we had to rely on third party apps CourierPost (Lite & Pro) and Parcels to do this but now New Zealand Post have released their official app.
We are going to do a more in-depth review and comparison of all four apps soon but in the meantime we just thought we’d give you a heads up about the app. FYI from what we’ve seen so far we really like the app, it’s the little attention to detail that makes the difference.

NZ Post tracking
The NZ Post iPhone app lets you track your New Zealand Post and Courier Post parcels sent within New Zealand and overseas. From the press release…..
The app offers the ability to get the status of your parcel in two easy steps. Simply enter your tracking number located on your PostShop receipt and hit Go. Your parcel is saved into the app, meaning you don’t have to key in your tracking number each time you wish to get the status of your parcel.
The killer feature is the ability to advise others of the status of your parcel by forwarding the status to an email address. The parcel can be quickly and easily added to other NZ Post iPhone apps by selecting the link in the email. This way everyone can track your parcel status!
Hmmm not sure it is a “Killer feature” to be able to send the details via email but handy all the same.
The app is free to install and the developers have said they are expecting to enhance and add to the app in the near future with other core New Zealand Post services.
So check it out and let us know what you think.

I’m part of the team at New Zealand Post who launched the app. Looking forward to your follow-up comparison of the four apps in this space. The New Zealand Post app (and the Parcels app from Lucid Design) both use our Track and Trace API. This API is free – but it’s early days in our quest to make APIs like this available – so send an email to developer@nzpost.co.nz if you’re interested in getting a key.
Point taken about the “killer feature” – I’ll have a word to our enthusiastic content writers!
