With the iPhone 4 launch happening this Friday we thought we’d let you know our plans and check to see yours. We also want to give you some links for you to bookmark ahead of time so that on the day you can keep up to date with everything.

Firstly, what we are doing? iPhonewzealand will be at MagnumMac in Christchurch on Moorhouse Avenue from around 6am onwards. We’ll be blogging from there on the day and we’ll be generally hanging around to have a chat with you whilst you wait or after you have made your purchase.
We’ll also have our SIM cutter with us, so those of you that haven’t been able to get a MicroSIM up and running in time will be able to get your current SIM card cut down so you can use it straight away (no responsibility will be taken if your SIM breaks during the cutting process).
Also we want your pictures, wherever you are going to be queuing on the day, we want them. Pictures of you queuing, others queuing, making the purchase, the store you are at, what ever you want, send us your pictures to ‘image @ iphonewzeland.co.nz‘ and we’ll put them into the gallery.
So that’s where we’ll be and what we’ll be up to… but what about you? Let us know below where and when you plan on being on Friday and to help you we have set up the form below which you can fill in. Once you have filled it in your plans will be available for others to see, that way you’ll have an idea of perhaps how many people will be where you are. When I bought my 3GS from magnum mac, I had to fill out a form with my ‘vodafone’ sim card number and so on (which was actually
My girlfriends as I’m on xt). Any idea if I will have to do this again? It’s a bit of a hassle having everything under her name…

Hopefully the confirmed locations come out early enough the night before to plan accordingly. Apparently MagnumMac Wgtn had quite a line for the iPad so I’d really like to avoid that (as much as possible of course).

The only reason Magnum Mac had lines on Friday was because they would only allow one customer in the store at a time, no matter what they were buying/enquiring. This generated lines and hype and other people joined the cue, etc etc. My friend at JB Hi Fi downstairs made a sign that said “iPad at JB Hi Fi – No cues, same price, come down now!” and held it outside Magnum Mac for 10 minutes before being told to “polity” screw off

I’m in Wellington and will probably go to the Lambton Quay store (regardless of what time they open).
As a current On Account customer, I already have a Micro Sim in my 3GS. How?
Becuase the micro SIM comes inside a normal size SIM, so when it’s time to change to the iP4, I can pop the micro one out. Nice.
I’ve also booked a hotel room close to the store and taken the day off work on Friday 30th. Sorted.

Yes, I’m dead serious. I went to an actual Vodafone store, verified I was a customer and they handed it over and completed a ‘sim swap’ – the new sim was up and running in minutes.
And yup, it will be $30 for prepay customers, free for On Account.

Really? That’s just silly. If I were a XT customer, I’d be peeved to say the least.
I should have said as a On Account Customer, the resign fee is $150 (I confirmed with Vodafone and rechecked the invoice from when I got the 3GS subsidised). Not sure if the cost will change but I’m all for getting a subsidised phone. Stuff paying full price if I was on Prepay..

My plan really depends on what retailers are going to stock the phone on lauch day. I think we all know there is going to be very limited stock so I think lining up the earlier the better. Was thinking of about 2am to be honest.
