Competition heats up
So we thought Telecom weren’t wholesaling the new XT network for a while yet, but it turns out that come April Digital Island will be providing us with another mobile player, and more importantly one that you can use the iPhone on.
As per the image below, the service goes live in April (1st April to be precise) and they are actively advertising “Works with iPhone”

What’s also really interesting here is according to their site they are going to give a discount on the iPhone….. well kinda.

The iPhone 3G works best with Digital Island mobile! Either use your existing iPhone, or we can provide your handset subsidy as a credit on your Digital Island account, which can go towards purchasing your iPhone from the Apple Store Online at http://store.apple.com/nz
They are an providing the service as an MVNO [wiki] which means they will be using XT’s Nationwide 3G cell towers and there will be no 2G fallback. They are also a business-only provider meaning no prepaid or consumer SIM cards will be avaialable.
How about pricing? Well it doesn’t look too bad, remember this is business only and these prices are just a “preview” and it is possible that there may be more detail/options to come.

I would definitely consider going with them if they had better pricing than XT themselves [or even different increments, whatever]
