At last!
Well folks, we have done it! You can now Tether on 3.1.3 with our carrier bundles for XT and 2degrees again! Happy times!!
Finally all the users waiting to update to the latest firmware but couldn’t because they needed Tethering can now do so. And the best bit. All you need to do is download and install the new bundle. No restoring, no separate configuration files. One all-in-one solution.
I have to say and I would like you all to say (in the comments below) a HUGE thanks to iPhonewzealand user DBMandrake who provided us with the solution. Without his help this would not have been possible.
Vodafone users who want a custom logo….. sorry but this is not an option for you if you want Tethering. We are not supporting custom bundles for Vodafone as they are not really needed anymore as they are only really there for a logo.
We have also slimmed down our options for Carrier Bundles. You now have one choice with the logo for both XT and 2Degrees. Previously you could have text, or logo but this is too much to update and maintain when there are changes.
To get the bundles just click here and choose your carrier, you’ll find the full instructions on how to install. Most of you will have done this already so it is just a case of downloading the new bundle, and updating your iPhone by option+click/shift+click “check for update” and selecting the new bundle you downloaded.
Thanks again to DBMandrake and to all our users who have supported us in getting this solution.
Enjoy!

Nice one guys. DBMandrake you legend
!
Big thanks DBMandrake, this is awesome stuff. XT is the dream-partner for iPhone once again!
Awesome stuff guy’s big thanks.
Thanks to all who made this work!
Thanks DBMandrake!! Rocks super well!
Thanks DBMandrake, and everyone else!… I’ve just updated to 3.1.3, and reapplied the new carrier bundle. Tested tethering and it worked like a charm! Thank again!
Excellent. I’m on Vodafone but it’s good to know that you guys have things up and waiting for me when I make the switch.
Wow..you guys totally rock!! Excellent work team
Oh and just noticed that now under usage you get a breakdown of tethered data and cellular. Is that new as don’t recall seeing in the past.
@ camtab:
It’s Been there a while but only for those that could tether
I might of forgotten to tell you but I’ve had tethering in 3.1 unjailbroken with XT. It works for at least 6 hours before it stops and I just reboot my phone and start the 6 hours again! Sorry, should of your you guys.
Thank you – all your efforts are really appreciated!
Awesome work, much appreciated!
Thanks team, this is a great win from my point of view. Great site!
Great work team. Yet again you have made the upgrade so very simple that even I can do it. Well doneost appreciated!
It might just be coincidence but since I installed this new XT carrier pack, my texts have been struggling to send and when they do, the receiver often gets 2. Has anyone else noticed texting issues? Just curious if something got changed in error when creating the new XT pack or could just be coincidence
Don’t worry mate, simply a coincidence. XT is down for texting/calling in many places for quite a few hours. See my topic on the forum.
Does the iTunes Fix work with iTunes 9? It just ‘quits unexpectedly’ on my Mac – Snow Leopard.
When you say it ‘quits unexpectedly’ do you actually get a message or does it just open AppleScript then quickly close?
This is what it is supposed to do, you will just see the icon in the dock appear and then disappear. When you launch iTunes you should then be able to select the ipcc file.
(also make sure you quit iTunes before running the script.)
I get a proper message “iTunes Fix quit unexpectedly.” Ignore Report Reopen
iTunes isn’t running either.
And the option to open the ipcc file isn’t there, eg. the ipcc file is greyed out and not selectable.
hmmmm, something is odd there, I have Snow Leopard and it is fine. Open terminal and type: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
This will then enable ipcc selection for you.
OK, that’s done the trick.
Thanks Dan.
Maybe the PDF instructions should mention that command as an alternative?
Thanks neilinnz, glad it worked.
We have tried to keep the PDF’s as straight forward as possible so that they are easy for everyone to follow. For the number of users that have had this issue we would treat it as an exception.
I have updated the OS to 3.1.3, but for some reason i still cant find the tethering option under settings. am I looking at the wrong place?
You should be looking under Settings >> General >> Network
so I was looking in the right place. any ideas as to why it doesnt give me the “tethering” or “internet sharing” options?
thanks for the prompt reply.
Who is your provider? If it is 2Degrees are you connected to one of their cell towers or a Vodafone one?
You say you have updated the OS to 3.1.3, did you update the bundle as well?
I followed the instructions on the PDF so I presume that installs the bundle? Should I try again perhaps?
The PDF directs you to download the bundle. So you updated the OS by downloading it via iTunes and you updated the carrier bundle by downloading the new one from the site.
You are with XT?
First of all I would reboot your device not just switching off the screen but actually rebooting it so when it starts you get the Apple logo. If that fails try installing the bundle again and if that fails try restoring.
@ Dan (nzbullet):
yup that’s what I did. Yes I’m also with XT. I might try to reboot, then reinstall the bundle to see if that fixes it. I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks for your help.
I am on XT and have iPhone 3.1.2 on my 3GS, I have loaded the bundle a few times and still do not get the Tethering option, but everything else is fine, I get the carrier logo, voice mail icon, MMS and mobile data everything else is working. But no tethering option anything else I can try?
This only works on 3.1.3+
