TradeMe Tweeting
One of the most requested apps here in New Zealand has to be for an official TradeMe app, you only have to flick through the forum here and on other NZ sites to see this is a very sought after app. We also wrote a story last year on the fact their site isn’t even updated to utilise the benefits of Mobile Safari.
So what are TradeMe doing about it? Hit the ‘read more’ to find out…
There has been only one 3rd party workaround app called MyTrades but this is mainly aimed at TradeMe sellers and offers very limited functionality.

On the complete flip side of the coin TradeMe’s rival eBay has an amazing free iPhone app which offers almost all the eBay desktop features in a superb user interface, the app even goes so far as push notifications when you are outbid on an auction, safe to say the bar has been set pretty high for a TradeMe app.

Whilst we can’t see a TradeMe app in the very near future this tweet directly from TradeMe earlier this month at least shows it is on their priority list and most certainly being considered.
What say you iPhonewzealanders? Would a fully functional official TradeMe app gain instant iPhone real estate and immediately make it on to the home screen?

Great post, I don’t think it would make it on the homepage for me, but maybe the second. Would be fantastic to see an app though, Trade Me kinda sucks on mobile Safari as you said.

I agree Paul, this is something i’ve wanted to see for a long time. I really hope trademe sort this out quick smart.

Let’s hope the TradeMe “to do list” isn’t to long and the iPhone app happens ASAP.
Maybe if trademe didnt live in the past and have an open api available there would be hundreds of apps available for all kinds of platforms. It pisses me off so much that they dont!

@ martin308: Agreed, it's very annoying they won't give devs the API's. It's fine if they are doing that so they can make a killer app themselves, but so far nothing. Let's hope that changes ASAP
the sella devs should be jumping on this. if they want to dislodge users from trademe these are the types of initiatives they need to invest heavily in
APIs are a low priority for trademe and have been for years, theyre on top with no competitors even close, why would they spend time and money to allow content off-site
