TVNZ iPad app
After the release of the iPad in New Zealand yesterday all the news outlets were jumping on it, including of course TVNZ (specifically One News). The report was, well rubbish and it seemed as if they were trying to attack the iPad at one stage because it was a device for consuming media, not creating and because it didn’t multitask.
But the best part of the whole report was when they decided to announce their very own iPad app, hot on the heels of the New Zealand herald app we just looked at.
As you can see from the image I quickly snapped above, this was their announcement. One News anchor Wendy Petrie on the screen, inside what would appear to be a massive generation 2 iPhone turned on it’s side. I mean come on TVNZ how hard would it have been to use an actual image of an iPad (a la image I created below) there’s enough of them around!

Looking at the template they used it looks as though it will be based off the iPhone version of the app. We have contacted Peter Watling of Kiwi development company Orsome Software, and the developer behind the TVNZ iPhone app, for confirmation of this.
[UPDATE] Peter has been in touch and unfortunately he is not developing the iPad version. This is a shame because we like Peters work and he did a great job of the iPhone version, however TVNZ have chosen to go with another developer, but who it is we don’t know. Is it you, if so get in touch with us.
We’ve asked for a preview but we’ll be sure to take a look once it’s released so keep an eye on the site.
Maybe there’s a legal issue with displaying their app on the news overlaid on an actual iPad

I just wanna know when they're going to update the iPhone app to be ios 4 multitasking and display compatible.

Downloaded the new iPad app and was very disappointing. It has no additional functionality and feels like a step back from the iPhone version. Yes supports full screen but does not utilize some of the iPad ui design features. Also the layout has a lot of wasted space. A large advert for tvnz is nit really required when I am already aware of the tvnz iPad app (I am using it)
I miss the summaries below the article titles and also the time indicators (colour)
Weather is untidy.
Designer must not understand colour and contrast as turquoise text on light blue and great is hard to read on tv guide. Tv guide now only shows current day where iPhone version allows next couple of days
Hopefully this is not the final version.
