Really?! No way?!!
Jeez… where was this at midnight? In true ‘chocolate teapot’ fashion, Vodafone have finally sent out an email to those on their ‘pre-registration’ list confirming that the iPhone went on sale an hour and a half before this was sent. Got your Flux Capacitor at the ready? Good, now do me a favour — hit 88mph and drive by MagnumMac Christchurch at 3am this morning and hand me a print-out of this so that I can go home and sleep instead of freeze my ass off unnecessarily. By the way, if you managed to snag one, come on in and gloat to the rest of us!

I’m happy, got two iPhones now.
Only 50 in VF Colombo Street, 6-7 remained after me. Phew!
Very limited numbers of 32gb, but I managed to get one of each.
Guy after me got the last one.
One was a birthday present for the missus.

Managed to get myself a 16GB in the end, from Albany. Good stuff, very pleased with it so far! EXCEPT, it seems prepay customers need a different MicroSIM (prepay numbers don’t work on plan sims) and so Vodafone told me they only received ONE for the 30 iPhones they had ready to sell today. ONE for THIRTY PHONES. WTF Vodafone?
So they told me to cut it myself until Tuesday when I get a free one.

I got a 32GB at J’ville after a tip off in the Lambton Quay queue. at least one person at J’ville got a pre-pay I believe, though I thought the rue was account only on this batch.
I’m sort of anti-climactic now, wondering why I bothered. yes the screen is better than my 3GS, which was better than my 3G, but it isn’t night and day. All the iPhone users in the office who have handled it agree with me that it isn’t so nice in the hand (but I’ll get used to it). It looks taller and narrower (but it isn’t) and the thinness isn’t obvious in the hand. It feels denser somehow.
I managed to get it to drop from 4 bars to ‘searching’ by gripping it the wrong way for 30 seconds or so, so there is a signal issue.
Overall I’m not disappointed, but really it’s $499 I didn’t need to spend. I’m still far more impressed by my iPad a week after getting it than the iPhone 4

In my room I have 3 bars, when I do the ‘death grip’ (completly covering the bottom left corner in the palm of my left hand) I can get it to drop to 1 bar but never any lower.

Update: elsewhere in the CBD I have 5 bars and it won’t budge from that holding it as I did before. It dropped a call 3 times before it connected when I was trying to dial out just now, but who’s to say that wasn’t something other than the phone?
I guess the black on the screen is much blacker than the 3GS. I’m warming to it as I play with it now I am finished work.

You’re kidding me – I only just got the same email now… brilliant
So any idea of when the next shipment is coming?

As much as Apple and Vodafone have pissed me off today I'm not happy about Magnummac either! They obviously have known they weren't going to stock the iPhones today. How about a public announcement or at the very least a note on the door saying no stock available so you don't piss off hundreds of would be customers!!!
I'm sure they wouldn't be breaching any confidential agreements with Apple by telling customers don't bother coming to our store on launch day.

Would like to confirm that the above price for the 32gb is correct. Got mine at the same price with contract.
