okay so by my calculations if I buy a iphone 4 32GB on the iphone 40 plan, then terminate my contract ASAP, then I should pay 799 + 450×1.125 = $1305? does anyone have any experience with canceling contracts from vodafone, do they add in extra fees?

You would pay for the contract for the first month. I did the same thing last year but I think the termination fee was including GST. This year is isn’t so it would cost you what you just calculated including the extra $40. Personally I am going to wait till tonight and order it straight from apple and wait a couple of weeks for it to ship here… That’s probably going to be the cheapest way.

I’d rather not reward VF by paying them any dollars they don’t deserve, so I’m going to wait for the Apple store as well (unless I hear of a non VF retailer selling them outright this afternoon

what if i use it til 1 September and cancel it on the day, would I pay same amount too? (Phone price + early termination)

Sounds good to me. I mean the iPhone 4 32GB is expected to be around $1299-$1349. So it would be pretty much the same thing right? $1345 in total and you get to have it today!!

yeah im loathed to reward vodafone as well, but where did the rumour about 7pm on the apple store start?

@ da_primo: + monthly cost.

I’d vaguely consider going with Vodafone on these plans as it looks like the 32GB iPhone 4 is about $100 cheaper than the 3GS at its launch. If VF’s network didn’t perform as well ad XT then I’d cancel out. I’ll wait and see how stocks hold out or whether there’s a sellout and weeks long wait for more.

I might go with @rick.ku’s plan. I have work from 5pm til early morning tomorrow so I won’t have time to go on the Apple online store tonight. Does anyone know which Vodafone store will sell them in Auckland?

Am i reading this right? To get anything more than 500mb of DATA you gave to spend 250 per month !!!! WTF! And then it’s only 1GB. Unreal.

Good pricing, the 16GB model is only $100 more than my 8G 3G model plan I bought last year. In total $1099 for the 16GB unit is good value I reckon. If there’s any stock left tomorrow I might go in and sign my wife up, then she can have my 3G!!

@ JDog7001:
Yeah, thats my current plan too. And if the previous 3GS prices are any gauge, it will be cheaper directly from Apple too (IIRC there was a $20 difference last time). Final decision will be made once I see what the shipping delay is estimated to be.

I was just trying to sign up to the “smart phone extra” plan on telecom, the telecom guy I was speaking to said that the delay with the iPhone 4 release today was because of the reception problems the phones been having… I don’t really know how delaying launch would sove reception problems, but thats what he seems to think. Personally I think it was a shipping problem. But who knows! Even Vodafone seems to be struggling.

I just bought iPhone 4 32Gb from Sylvia Park. I can confirm you that iPhone 4 32Gb outright price is NZ $1279.00. It says so on my receipt

@ Steve:
No I did not buy the phone outright. I purchased it with the plan, but on the receipt you will see the full price of the phone (outright price), subsidized amount and price of the handset after the subsidy.
