Let the queuing begin!
We have had multiple reports that Vodafone will be selling the iPhone 4 in most stores from 12 midday today. The catch? It’s only for customers signing a new contract or resigning. We have also had reports that Apple’s CSRs have been citing 7pm tonight as the launch of the iPhone 4 for outright purchases via the Apple NZ store.
To try help co-ordinate our readers to have their best possible chance at getting an iPhone 4 from Vodafone today, we are compiling the below list of stores we believe to have stock available for contract-only sales from midday today.
Vodafone have just revised their website to state that all retail stores should have stock – although we have only been able to confirm/deny the following. You can access the stores that should theoretically have stock by using the “iPhone 4 “filter on this page: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/store-locations/#iphone4
The following stores will have stock, although limited:
- Vodafone Lambton Quay, Wellington (from iamwaiting)
- Vodafone Chartwell, Hamilton (from psychrn)
- Vodafone Wall St, Dunedin (from UrbanGrafix)
- Vodafone Sylvia Park, Auckland (from SmurFy)
- MagnumMac, Christchurch (from Live Chat user) – awaiting Vodafone approval
- Vodafone Riccarton, Christchurch (from Kamisaka)
The following stores have been reported as not having stock for 12pm today:
- Vodafone Queen St, Auckland (from Live chat user)
These are by no means official reports but this may provide a good idea as to where you should line up. We will be updating this list constantly as we get more information.
Apple have also been quoted CSRs have apparently been telling people that the iPhone 4 will be available for online purchase from Apple.co.nz starting 7pm tonight. Vodafone, on the other hand, say that online purchases of the iPhone 4 from them will start in the “coming weeks” – perhaps due to stock shortages.
UPDATE – We have received an email from Apple PR stating “We are thrilled to be selling iPhone 4 in our Apple Online Store starting this evening.” 7pm unconfirmed at this stage but definitely happening today.
How can you help? Ring up your local Vodafone or Vodafone reseller and find out if they can sell the iPhone 4 from 12pm midday today, and let us know in the comments below!
I rung DigitalMobile chch and they had no idea. I rung MagnumMac ChCh and got same message “delayed until further notice from Vodafone”

I think even when the media release comes it will be a bunch of PR BS like ‘it was due to complications in the distribution of the iPhone 4…’ and nothing definitive. I wonder if MM in Wgtn have stock

Vodafone has been sending out texts to account holders saying “Great News! iPhone 4 is available from selected VF stores today-miday. Stock is limited so only avail on account. 4 selected stores see vodafone.co.nz/iphone”

Waiting outside Riccarton Vodafone (its the one at the Cinemas end). Confirmed that they WILL be selling the iPhone 4 on contract at 12noon. As of yet they don;t know what the contracts are like. I did manage to get a rough figure for the "full" price(before subsidy) its about $1179 for the 16gb and $1399 for the 32gb(can't remember quite what the last 2 numbers were, but it was in the 1.3k range.)

They're RRP$1099, I doubt Voda will make almost $100 markup per model, haha. They won't get any sales.

If you buy the 32gb on the $40 plan and then cancel your plan straight away it will cost you $1289.
$799 for handset + $40 for one month + $450 for early termination fee.
This way you can buy today on a plan with Vodafail and still go back to XT or 2degrees.

I got my Iphone 4!! Would like to confirm that Vodafone Manukau has it too! Once i left the store, I can confirm that they have ran out of Micro sim, has 2 iphone 4 32gb left and a few 16gbs left! Good luck guys =)

Dont mean to double post but know a few people keeping an eye out so confirming I have my Iphone 4 (YAH!!) and will be breaking contract withen the month (you pay for a month anyway so might as well use some data) Riccarton First Mobile had 29 units to sell and they have sold out. The online store at 7pm tonight (apple online) is apparently coming with a 6 week delivery time…mentioned by two separate people but not confirmed by anyone of importance (just putting it out there as a head up and my reasoning for paying the tiny extra to break contract and get it now)
