XT MicroSIMs back in stock, now include airtime (for a limited time)

XT MicroSIM's available again

When XT first launched their MicroSIMs they had very limited stock, in fact so much so that they sold out very quickly. Then along came 2degrees with their MicroSIMs who seem to have plenty of stock and not only that but they included airtime. Well now there’s some good news for XT users.

From today XT users with an iPad or waiting for their iPhone 4 can buy their MicroSIM now that Telecom have once again got stock and as a bonus all Prepaid MicroSIMs will now include $29.95 worth of airtime (so the cost of the card ends up being free).

The free airtime is a “limited offer” and apparently only lasts whilst current stock levels are available. The Airtime will expire after 6 months (as per usual) and can be used for Data, Text or Calls. So if you’re going on Prepaid XT and you need a MicroSIM now is the time to get one.

Here’s the link to find your local store or you can call 123 or 126 to get one sent to you.
Telecom MicroSIMs will also be available for purchase online at telecom.co.nz from late August.

Yesterday (Sunday) in anticipation of a Mon/Tues first wave iPhone delivery (and a rush on XT microsims), I popped into the Telecom store in Westfield Riccarton (chch) and asked to grab a microsim.

Served by Craig. Recieved AWESOME service. Got some good tips on apps, plans, setup etc. Transferred from an old Okta Boss on Telecom CDMA prepay (OneBill) to a v3 MicroSim XT Onebill ($10 p/m) includes 200 txts and $12 for 120meg data. Because OneBill is technically a ‘contract’ even though it’s open-term… the microsim was free!! Cheers Telecom. Cheers Craig.

No mention of the free air-time though?

Of course, my phone is now dead because the microsim is now active, but it means no waiting once TnT deliver. Woohoo.

Was told there are very few microsims per store because Telecom have no official phones requiring them. 1 box of 20 were at the Westfield Riccarton store… so a hint to others… get in quick! (Like NOW if you can be without a phone for a couple of days!!!)

Passed by Voda-fail on the way out to play with the iPhone4 demo unit. “Can I help you” said a pimpley nerd, “No thanks, I’m all sorted”… *grin*

As OneBill is technically postpaid you wouldn’t get any free airtime, it’s only for prepaid.

When did you get it? And is it on postpaid or prepaid?

Marvellous. Just wait ’til you want to add credit to or manage a prepaid sim for an iPad. Telecom really haven’t got their act together on this.
    1. Buy sim with credit in store
    2. Call 0800 323232 from phone with sim in it – oh wait you can’t
    3. Go to store where they’ll set it up online – oh that’s right they can’t because it needs a text back to a phone with the sim in it
    4. Order sim adapter from Hong Kong
    5. Wait a week
    6. Put sim in phone and got to add credit
    7. No option to add $30 500mb data credit
    8. Call customer help and after 15 mins finally add credit
    9. Discover that added credit is only valid until end of billing cycle, 8 whole days, as credit is only valid within the month from when the sim was originally registered
    10. Switch to vodafone, where not only is the sim recognised, but the apn settings are automatically entered, iPad runs faster (on 2100 anyway) and adding credit is done via a webpage which is automatically accessed from the ipad’s 3G connection.
    Gaaaaahhhh…

Yep its true I just did it for my Mother-in-law. There’s no way she would be able to it. I asked Telecom about this and their reply was:

“I can understand your frustration at not being able to check your usage on the iPad. Our Mobile team are currently working on this, and hope to have a solution soon for all our Prepaid iPad customers.

In the meantime, if you would like access to our Prepaid Mobile Broadband usage meter, we need to transfer your number to a normal SIM. Then set up the usage meter, and then transfer your number back to the micro sim. This process does not take long, and is fairly simple. If you would like me to arrange this for you, please confirm via reply email.”

Shame Vodafone doesn’t work fast everywhere.

I have been told that the free airtime is only with a Telecom pre-paid mobile number, not if you transfer from Vodafail to XT!!!

Does anyone know if the new microSim card restores the Voicemail button. I got a new XT sim for my old Iphone 3G and it restored the Voicemail button under the new operating system, however the same sim cut down for the Iphone 4 and the damn thing has gone again.

I have a 3Gs and wanted my voicemail button to work as well. So i purchased the XT micro sim and put it in my 3Gs that has OS4.2 and what do you know the voicemail button works.
Someone will probably say how did he do that, when i was in Hong Kong i had purchases a sim tray that accepts the micro sim for the iphone 3Gs, so it was a matter of swapping the original Apple sim tray with the one i purchased.

Aus Population vs NZ Population – Not hard to work out why its cheaper, sure the NZ networks could lower the prices but then they wont have money to improve infrastructure… Personally, I would rather pay a bit more but watch New Zealand with its 4.5mil Population catch up to the rest of the world in Broadband and Mobile Technology. @ myopinion:
