Telecom: “We’re ready for iPhone 4 users”, new Smartphone Extra plan launched

Ready: Telecom launch new Smartphone Extra plan

Well, it seems like everybody is making iPhone announcements today except Vodafone. Telecom have just announced that it’s “ready for iPhone 4 users” and has introduced a new ‘Smartphone Extra’ plan with double data allowances for the next three months. This means XT customers can now opt to add 1GB of data and 2500 text messages for $38
per month to any prepaid or postpaid voice plan until the end of September. Read on for the full press release but at this stage we have to say: seriously, Vodafone, where are you guys? Seems like everybody is at this party but the host! Whatever you’re holding back… it better be good!

TELECOM IS READY FOR IPHONE 4 USERS

Telecom‚s XT Mobile Network offers Apple iPhone users 3G services and
speeds across the country along with competitive prices on mobile data
plans.

From today, Telecom is offering Smartphone users the opportunity to double
their data for the next 3 months when they sign up to our new 500 megabyte
Smartphone Extra.

This means customers can add 1GB of data and 2500 text messages for $38
per month to any prepaid or postpaid voice plan on XT until the end of
September.

Also, from 1 August for as little as $6, lower-level data users can now
get a 50MB Data Extra, giving customers approximately five thousand
Facebook page views per month*.

Telecom Head of Marketing Management, Paul Taylor says, „Our XT network
offers customers a great mobile data experience and we have added new data
plans to our already competitive prices so Smartphone users can make the
most of it.‰

Last Friday, Telecom confirmed that for $29.95 per month, XT customers can
get 500MB worth of data or for $18 per month customers can get a total of
240MB on both prepaid or an open term postpaid plan. Telecom also offers
a 2GB and 4GB data plan for avid data consumers.

Telecom stores are offering micro-SIM cards to XT customers to make it
easier for them to use the latest Smartphone and notebook devices.

The 500MB Smartphone Extra offer is valid until 30 September.

*The data quantity example is an estimate only based on billed activity
for internet use browsing m.facebook.com on a mobile phone. Actual data
amounts transferred will vary.

Yeah. It’s good that both 2degrees and Telecom and doing some sort of iPhone readying but Vodafone aren’t. I guess that’s typical of a multi-national corporation. Perhaps they are waiting for the other telcos to release their plans so they can try undercut them :S

    Neat!

I got my XT microsim today and called their service line to see if I could register for this and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. Odd. You would think you'd let the people on the frontline know what's going on before you tell your customers….

Sure, mainly due to Number Portability.

When you request your SIM just say to the guy in the store (or online) that you are transfering your number. If they don't stuff up it's meant to only take a couple of hours. (was 1 week plus once for me)

i'm just glad a large corporate like telecom is willing to take a step forward and say "I don't see why I can't lower my prices for our customers, even if we do have a faster network"

After experiencing disturbingly slow speeds on Vodafones network on Queen St in Central Auckland, I have bought a Telecom XT microsim to use next month. I really dont see how their speeds could be any slower than Vodafones. Great to see them take the initiative and give us some announcements regarding the iPhone 4, even if Vodafone doesnt see the need.

Also popped into MM in Newmarket as I was in the area, they couldn’t even show me a case until 12am due to Vodafone, it was 11:51 and I walked out, I left the UK to escape this sort of bullsh*t!!!!

I also had alot of trouble getting them to load this plan on my Iphone 3gs!! Now after the “24 hr wait period” If I phone up *333 it tells me I am on the 1gb data plan, but if I log into the pda portal I have no data bar showing at all. If I go to “plan details” It says I am on the casual data plan. Plan to phone through later tonight unless it magicly fixes itself.

BrophNZ, you can find the info on this plan at http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/special-offers/smartphone-extra
