iOS 4.3 beta 3 available now
Apple’s 3rd update in just about as many weeks to their latest beta iOS (iOS beta 4.3) has just dropped and is ready for download (if your are a dev). What changes does it bring? At this stage we are unsure but once it’s down and installed we’ll be sure to update you. Hopefully Skype now works (unlikely though).
The update is available for all devices running iOS betas including iPhone (3GS/4), iPad, iPod touch (3rd/4th gen) and Apple TV.
Have you installed it? Found anything new or improved? Then hit the comments.
Update 1: The first of the changes has come in (although it’s a 4.3 thing not a beta 3 thing): You can now cancel app downloads midway through [via AppAdvice]. See below for details.
Update 2: Skype STILL doesn’t work… guess we’ll need to see an update to Skype before that happens.
Update 3: Not sure if this came in beta 3 (it may have been beta 2) but you can finally play direct from your iPhone camera roll onto the Apple TV. You may remember we commented about the lack of this back in our review of the Apple TV.. and although a little buggy (occasionally quits back to the Apple TV main menu) at least it is now here and I am sure by the time 4.3 is public it will work perfectly. Image after the break
To cancel an app download you just press and hold an icon until they wiggle.

Hold and wait for the wiggle
You will now see the little X in the top left corner of the app (previously this would only show for fully installed apps).

Are you really sure?
When you press it you will be asked the usual “Are you sure” question. Hit delete and it’s gone. Simple as that. Now I need to re-install NZ Tides after my little screenshot demo.

Downloading now but won’t be able to install untill later. I am only updating my iPad though as I do not want to be without Skype on my iPhone. As you say Dan highly unlikely Skype will work with this Beta 3 or any further revisions / final release of 4.3 but you never know.
Certainly looks like it is a Skype App issue and they are certainly not the quickest at rolling out updates. If it is the App I wouldn’t be surprised if it is still not fixed come 4.3 public release.
Aside from that secretly hoping Apple will turn on FaceTime over 3G but again highly unlikely.
The other changes are mostly around Airplay which I have to say is streaming video from my iPad to Apple TV very well now.
Let’s see what else people dig up from this Beta

I can’t test it yet be we are hoping for the ability to stream from your iPhone to your Apple TV for videos you have taken with the camera app. This should have been there from day one of Airplay (IMO) and would create a huge link in sales, when buying an iPhone why not get an Apple TV.
Off comment but where to find that wallpaper? Looks awesome.

To get the apple TV streaming from camera roll, did you have to update the ATV2 with the beta as well or just the iphone? I have my ATV2 jailbroken so I can play movies from my network drive so dont want to update but do want that streaming ability

@ camtab: Sorry mate I didn’t try it with just the iPhone first, I updated both and then tried. Maybe someone who has updated just their iPhone could confirm this for you?
@ Dan: I have tested it now myself and can confirm that an Ipad running iOS 4.3 beta 3 can stream videos from the photo album (ie videos taken from an iphone and sync’d up) to a non Beta Apple TV

Here is a zip with the full range of colours: http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/public/Technical-Wallpapers.zip
Yep you were Cam, I decided I want to change the colour every now and then. Thanks for giving us the original though.
@ Dan: Not sure if I was the one who first uploaded that wallpaper to this site (i recall being asked but someone else might have done it) but love the new colours. I have been using the standard “blueprint” option but now have the full array to change it up.
Good work team
