iPad 1 reduced
Yep, as expected the Apple Store just came back up and with that the iPad 1 has had a price reduction. So if for some unknown reason you aren’t interested in waiting for the iPad 2 hit up the Apple store for an iPad 1 now!
Old and new prices are shown below:

So they’ve finally dropped the prices to what they should have been for the iPad when it launched. Doing a direct exchange rate with the US dollar, the “sale” prices of the original iPad are just about (within a couple of dollars) what the new iPad 2 will cost in the US. I think i’ll wait and pick one up in the UK or US at a price that isn’t a massive ripoff thanks very much.

You’re missing one very important thing — sales tax. The US prices advertised do not include sales tax as in the US that varies from state to state and is added when you get to the checkout. In NZ our advertised prices include 15% GST. When the iPad first came out here we posted about this and found that, with sales tax / GST taken into consideration, our RRP matches the US one to the dollar.
You mention the UK as being cheaper but the UK suffers the worst price hikes of any territory. For example the Apple TV is US$99 but in the UK it’s GBP99!
See this post and it’s comments to see that the iPad 1 was a lot more expensive in the UK than it was in NZ: http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/2010/all/ipad-available-from-friday-23rd-july-pricing-confirmed/
