iPhone alarm broken yet again
It would seem many of you that had an alarm set for this morning found themselves still sleeping when they should have been awoken by the wonderful sound of Marimba (though I’m not sure who wants to set an alarm for New Years Day) and it would therefore appear that the Great iPhone Alarm Debacle has reared it’s ugly head again but this time with a slight difference.
As 2011 rolled in everyone was hoping for a fresh start but those that set their daily alarm were unfortunately disappointed.
The problem this time lies with the standard alarm that you set to go off each day at a set time. For some reason it doesn’t seem to be working and although we are still unsure why we do know it obviously has something to do with the New Year (as it only started happening today). We also noted that a recurring alarm (i.e. one that you set to go off every Saturday) does till work as it should.
Interestingly this is the complete opposite to the previous alarm issue whereby the recurring alarm didn’t work but the standard one did.
The question now is, how and when are Apple going to fix this issue properly and the bigger question must be seriously, Apple: how hard is it to make an f’ing alarm work?!?
Have you been faced with this issue? Have you just about had enough of the iPhone alarm? Let us know in the comments below.
Thanks CamTab and Paul for sending this in.

I’m not sure if this has any bearing but my partner just got back from the states yesterday (where she used her iPhone with her brother’s iPhone’s AT&T sim card) and now her Facetime has been deactivated and when she tries to activate Facetime it just says “Waiting for activation” and won’t update at all.
Facetime was working fine on her phone before but now there seems to be a problem with the activation process (she’s on Vodafone by the way). We even tried reseting the settings on her iPhone but still no love.

That’s fricken awesome Apple, like you say Dan, How bloody hard can it be to make an alarm clock work… surely easier than making an iPod make phone calls!?!
This is a fine example of how Apple is crap! Don’t get me wrong, I love my phone, I just hate how they ignore the issues and go nuts with the unimportant things.
For the love of orange juice, Apple, FIX THE BUGS!
On a slightly positive note, it’s been reported to come right on the 3rd, till then, a recurring alarm does the trick.
I don’t think I’ll ever rely on the iPhone alarm unless I’m forced to.

This is annoying made me late for work. Hopefully will be fixed soon.

Yeah I read the 3rd as a date thrown around for a fix too but I am dubious as this date is only “known” as the user tricked his phone into thinking it was the 3rd (first date that it worked as he went through options). As far as we know the act of “tricking” the phone made it work in the background and it wont actually work on a phone that legitimately hits the 3rd.
Guess we will find out in due course but that is a ridiculous flaw and makes no sense. Its no excuse but I could “understand” if it was an hour out (day light savings reset) or even stupider if it was timed to US midnight but the 3rd??…how is that even a rational date?

Oh my gosh this is crazy! So had alarm set for 10AM because I was starting work at 11AM… Alarm did NOT go off… I randomly decided to check my phone and it was 11:29AM, ended up being 45 minutes late.. Work not happy, but luckily my “alarm didn’t go off” excuse did suffice. Crazy, Apple.

Oh for heaven’s sake … as a New Zealander who got stung by the iOS 4.1 alarm bug months and months ago, and had to wait for iOS 4.2 for his recurring alarms to work properly again, it amazes me that Apple didn’t thoroughly check everything before releasing 4.2.
I’ll be interested to see whether it comes right on the 3rd. Although the fact that this effects everyone in the world, and not just Australians and New Zealanders, suggests that Apple might be a bit quicker to produce a fix this time ’round.

Oh Cr*p ! After many years of faithful service I have just retired my iPhone 2G and purchased iPhone 4.As I have always used my phone as my alarm and find it alarming that it may not work! With all the “whistles & bells”you would think they could get an alarm to work! Oh the joys of upgrading!

@ camtab: Yet interestingly Engadget are reporting it is still not working.
I can also confirm it worked for me this morning, so not sure what is happening State side.
