Not so cryptic
Apple have begun sending out invites for an event scheduled for March 2nd, and here’s a copy of the one received by Engadget. The graphic on the invite features a Calendar app icon where the focus is clearly on the number ’2′, and a peel-away in the corner reveals an iPad. The text on the graphic reads ‘Come see what 2011 will be the year of’, obviously referring to the fact that 2010 was quite widely accepted as the year of the iPad (1) as far as tech goes. My only hope is that the convention of renaming the device year-upon-year as has happened with the iPhone doesn’t happen with the iPad and that it remains as simply ’iPad’, as is the case for almost all other Apple products. Actually, who am I kidding: my real only hope is that our invitation is in the post!
PS: We’re still not back in full swing, but as I’m lead here not sleeping (again) I simply couldn’t ignore posting this. Stay strong, Canterbury.

I love it how the peel away stops just before where the camera will be.

I’m considering buying the new iPad-2 whenever it is set to be releases. But here is the question should i buy the version with Wifi+3g or just the Wifi only, The reason why I’m asking is because once is upgrade my iphone (3Gs) that is running in the latest software 4.2.1 to the latest version that will have the ‘My hotspot” capability. I was thinking that the Wifi only would do the trick. Please advise me?

@ alopes: This is a very good idea, however after using the hotspot for a while now, I have noticed that speed is far slower than a direct 3G connection.

@ alopes: Battery life on your iPhone will be drained using the hotspot. I know there is an additional cost involved, but if you can I would recommend getting the 3G. Having had the hotspot feature for a while now, I can say I haven’t used it for my iPad. Ok I know that I have the 3G one so why would I, but in all honesty it makes for a much better experience.

One thing to bear in mind also is that with the current line-up the WiFi-only iPad does not have GPS, so assuming it’s the same deal with the iPad 2 that’s a fairly major feature to not have.
I went for the wifi only edition the first time (and mifi hotspot) and after a month it was sold and 3G version bought. It was just such a hassle to keep connecting the devices and like Steve said, the GPS functionality is pretty much a must have.

I’m sure that picture is of the current iPad. Will be disappointing if it wasn’t…
