The iPad Mini, Are you Interested?

There are a lot of rumours flying around about the potential release of the iPad Mini at the same time as the iPhone 5. A lot of people feel as though the iPad Mini is pointless, why not just get an iPad? Well there are a few key differences which could make it worth while.

The most common perception is that it will have a 7.85 inch screen and be a lot thinner than the iPad.

This picture below is from imore and displays the difference in size compared to the iPod Touch and iPad.

iPad Mini

The iPad Mini is obviously smaller, but it will also be a lot thinner, more like an iPod Touch (7.2mm) according to imore. This will make it a lot easier to carry and use ‘on the move’. Using an iPad on the bus to work or in the back seat of a taxi is great but the iPad Mini will make it so much easier. The lighter and smaller Mini will fit nicely in a handbag or satchel and will be easier to hold on to.

Another difference that the Mini is rumoured to have compared to the iPad is that it will not have a Retina display. To us Apple lovers this is a massive difference and a possible game changer in the Mini’s chances of success. The Retina display on the iPad is a huge selling point, it will make the Mini cheaper but not having it will bring the Mini closer to its competitors.

The possible introduction of the Mini onto the tablet market is clearly a ploy from Apple to stamp their dominance over their competitors. The Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire have been very popular, will the Mini take over?

The Mini will be perfect for the e-reader fan, being lighter it will be a lot easier to hold for longer periods. A few weeks ago I did a review on a New Zealand designed App called Booktrack which syncs music to e-books, this would be perfect on the iPad Mini. For people who enjoy reading books and catching up with the news on the iPad, the Mini will definitely be worth it.

This next picture shows the difference in thickness of the Mini compared to the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire. iPad Mini Thickness

The thickness and weight of the iPad Mini is going to be what puts it above other products. People always want the lightest product. People who travel a lot or commute to work should be very interested.

The Mini has a lot of exciting design features but will it be worth it? It’s certainly exciting to have another Apple product on the shelves but the question is, are you interested?
