It’s all go tonight with the New Zealand iPhone 5 information people. We have just had word of the amount of iPhone 5′s Vodafone NZ are to have at launch and boy is it small. Vodafone NZ have been allocated just 10,000 handsets for initial first wave launch, that’s for the whole of New Zealand. To put it in perspective with previous launches we have heard for the 4S launch they were given 18,000 handsets. These lower numbers are no doubt purely due to the record high demand for the iPhone 5. If you want one of these at launch I wouldn’t plan on cruising to the mall on Sunday to pick one up. Get in early on launch day.

Just out of curiosity, i’m planning on queueing for the midnight launch this year. As I have never queued in previous years what time should I start queueing from?

There is just no way of knowing that. I’d get down there as early as you can. If there is nobody there go away and do some things. Return every hour or so and check the queue status. Twitter is a good place to check what’s going on also. If a queue has formed @VodafoneNZ will likely tweet some pictures.
Well have called Yoobee and JB Hifi, they too will only be selling iPhone 5 to new connections to VFNZ. No outright sales.

where do you think most of them will be? Saturday Purchase too ambitious you think?

Wait, so are they being released this week? I am completely confused: Apple has not even posted a release date on their site. And if so, will I not be able to purchase one on the weekend?

If you leave it until Saturday I don’t think you will get one. That’s purely guesswork though based low stock and high demand. Good luck!

Yes they are being released this Friday in New Zealand to purchase on a 2 year contract. Apple online have not offered a pre order this year, again this is probably due to high demand. They will be available on Apple online to purchase outright at some point Friday probably early hours but only time will tell what the delivery estimate is going to be. Considering the states and the UK are up to a 3-4 week delivery time I don’t think it’s going to be any less than that. Good luck!!
@ Paul:
I dont think overbooking in UK, US and other countries would affect NZ customers. Apple would have already allocated certain number of handsets for NZ customers for the release date. Also the handsets that are sold in other countries are Service Provider dependant, whereas in NZ they sell unlocked version. I will wait for 12.01am and book it on Apple website.

My pre-ordered Iphone5 arrived by courier this morning at 10am. At 9am another courier had delivered my nano sim card. Very impressed. I thought I would have to wait some time for delivery. Thanks Vodafone

@ elraynz:
Lucky! I just got a text from Vodafone saying mine’s been dispatched but I was in the second round of preorders so I don’t have my hopes up for delivery today.

Think that outright sales may be available from 22 October. After looking around on the Vodafone website, found it said “[contract] Offer available until midnight on 22 October”, which probably means the start of outright sales.
