iPhone 4S now available for pre-order
The iPhone 4S is available for pre-order right now via the Apple Store website. At the time of writing this, the shipping time is 1-2 weeks so the question is… pre-order and wait for it to be delivered, or risk another potentially shambolic retail launch on the 11th? What are you going to do? Share in the comments.
UPDATE: As pointed out by a lot of readers, Telecom’s website briefly showed an ‘iPhone’ link this morning, and then went away again. See screen shot below. There is speculation that this could mean Telecom are getting it, but it could just as easily mean that Telecom are going to offer some ‘bring your iPhone to XT’ deals like it has in the past.…

Read MoreApple Posts Official MobileMe to iCloud Transition FAQ page
We recently posted some of our thoughts concerns on the upcoming transition from MobileMe to iCloud. Our main concern was that after the 2011 WWDC keynote where Apple announced the new iCloud service they did not give any detail or clarification on how the transition would work and what services would become extinct.
We are assuming that Apple read our post and urgently felt the need to update the good people of New Zealand and today they have posted an official MobileMe to iCloud transition FAQ page. So what’s staying and what’s going? Carry on reading to find out.…

America. Land of hope, Land of opportunity, and land of the iPad 2. The latter of these 3 is in extremely short supply at the moment. With online orders now showing a 4 to 5 week delivery time and retail stores, including Apple’s flagship stores, reportedly sold out we are considering ourselves very lucky right now as our iPad 2 was delivered on Thursday. We will be doing an in depth review closer to or around the NZ launch but for now hit the read more for a quick look and our initial thoughts.…

Read MoreiPad as sole means of mobile communication: is it possible?
A question I get asked a lot and I’m sure some of you will have been asked, too, is “why do you need an iPhone and an iPad?” The honest answer (although rarely admitted) is you don’t need both… you just want them both.
Recently I have been considering saying goodbye to my iPhone 4 and once released later this year using a 64gb WiFi 3G iPad 2 as my sole means of communication. No this is not an early April fools’ and yes, you did read that correctly: goodbye, iPhone 4.
I realise the stage I have chosen to propose ditching the iPhone 4 on could have been better. Proposing this to iPhone enthusiasts on an iPhone blog isn’t going to be an easy sell but before you judge me and shout blasphemy carry on reading to find out why.

Read MoreTIP: Enable iOS AirPrint for ALL networked printers in Mac OS X… and then some
For no apparent reason, Apple pulled the support for the highly anticipated (and hyped) iOS feature AirPrint in the final build of Mac OS X 10.6.5. The feature was set to allow any iOS device running 4.2 to print wirelessly to any networked printer on a Mac running 10.6.5. Consequently, the only printers you can print to are a handful of (natively enabled) HP printers. For anybody interested the list of those HP printers can be found here.
For the rest of us who are not willing to buy a new printer just for this feature we are going to take a look at a pretty much 1-click solution to enable AirPrint on ALL networked printers… and a little more. Carry on reading for the full run-down.…

Read MoreAsk iPhonewzealand: How much will FaceTime cost to use over 3G?
FaceTime, FaceTime, FaceTime! Unless you have just moved to Earth from outer space you will know that this is Apple’s new video calling service. Compatible FaceTime devices thus far are the iPhone 4, the iPod touch 4th Gen and (as of last week) any Mac with a camera running Snow Leopard.
Aside from the odd launch hiccup and Mac security bug which has now been fixed, we at iPhonewzealand could not be more impressed with FaceTime. The only downside is talking to people with FaceTime uses data, but how much does it use? and what is a call going to cost you to make or receive? Carry on reading to find out.…
Read MoreiPad users rejoice… Official VLC iPad app is here.
Well what have we here?, A few short hours ago Apple approved the official VLC iPad app which was submitted around a week ago.

The now approved app is ready to go, but how does it perform and does it live up its big brother desktop clients VERY high expectations? Carry on reading to find out.…
