Read More2degrees announces 50MB data bundle and $10 text
Until now, 2degrees’ mobile offering has been somewhat of a cruel mistress for iPhone users – attractive calling rates, but expensive data caps (50c per MB) and 2G speeds. Well, something had to change and this afternoon, one of these issues has been addressed in an announcement made by the company via a press event in Auckland. Available immediately are two new optional packages – a 50MB data plan and a $10 text bundle. Yes folks, 2degrees finally just became a serious option for iPhone users – but does it stack up against the other players?…
Read More2degrees poised to make mobile data statement
2degrees Mobile have been in touch today to let us know they are going to be holding a ‘press event’ tomorrow at midday at 4pm today. It is to be held at their head office in Auckland and they will be making a statement regarding “mobile data”. All we know at this stage is that it is not related to the launch of their 3G network, which is scheduled for later this year.
We can only speculate as to what will be announced – perhaps plans or cheaper casual rates but as soon as the press release is available we’ll post the details here.
What do you think 2degrees will announce? Let us know in the comments below.…
Read MoreHeads-up: Our bundles don’t work on iPhone iOS 4… yet
This is a heads-up to let you all know that our carrier bundles don’t work with iPhone OS 4 right now. To be super-clear: iPhone OS 4 isn’t out yet, but a beta (preview) version of it is out for registered Apple developers. We haven’t had the chance to install it ourselves yet but reader simonwhite has and unfortunately he has advised that the carrier bundles don’t work with it. So: if you need our carrier bundles working, do not install the preview of OS 4 yet.
We’re updating our iPhones today and needless to say, it looks like we have a few coffee-fuelled nights ahead of us to get this thing working again but the good news is the public release of this is at least a few months away (probably July if previous years are anything to go by). We’ll keep you posted on progress, but bear in mind that until the final release is out we still won’t know for sure if we’ve done it. Until then: continue to enjoy OS 3.1.3 with fully-working bundles!…

Read MoreBetter data plans on the way from 2degrees?
Well I tell you, you’ve got to be eagle-eyed and just a little bit of a nosy sod to get anywhere in this game. Which is exactly why my interest was piqued when I read the following twitter-conversation between Geekzone owner Mauricio Freitas and 2degrees Mobile……

As you may be aware we don’t support jailbreaking here at iPhonezealand so you may be asking why we are posting about this? Well we do support our Carrier Bundles and a number of people have been asking about lost carrier logos after they have jailbroken. Hopefully this post will give you a heads up about how you can resolve the issue. …
Read MorePrepay Comparison Table
In the interests of easier comparison of New Zealand’s now three mobile networks, iPhonewzealand user Ahmad has created a table which should allow deciphering of the mobile plans to be easier than the Da Vinci code. The table covers prepaid plans only, which is 2degrees’s main focus at launch, and heavier users of mobile phone may be able to find a better deal going on account.…

Read More2degrees data pricing not viable for iPhone users… yet.
Back when we launched, we spoke to 2degrees about their plans for the iPhone. They told us that they would let Vodafone and Telecom battle for that market, but that iPhone owners would still be welcome. Well, that welcome has turned to somewhat of a frosty reception this morning with the company’s pricing announcement.…
Read More2degrees warm to iPhone users, cool to hardware
I don’t know, you put up with one iPhone-capable network for a year, and then two more come along at once! Joking aside, new-comers 2degrees are about to crank the competition dial up to new levels of awesomeness this August when they go live with their brand new network. 2degrees has commited to spending $250 million dollars on building their new network with new cell sites in the main centres and a roaming agreement with Vodafone to get service to customers when they stray outside of those cities. The network will operate both 900 / 1800Mhz 2G and 2100Mhz 3G services making its ability to deal with the iPhone relatively similar to Vodafone’s.…
