Apple now accepting Apps for the iPad App Store ‘Grand Opening’!
With only just a couple of weeks till those pre-orders start shipping Apple has sent emails out to registered Devs advising them they can now submit their apps to the iPad App Store for the ‘Grand Opening’
So are your apps ready? If so then now’s the time, if not then you may want to get a wriggle on. You’ve got until 27th March to be considered for the grand opening , and given the number of apps on the App Store that will need be being ported I would suggest there will be a fair number submitted. Even if you don’t want to be part of that (not sure why)I would still get a hurry on as I am sure there are going to be delays with such a huge number of apps.
Head past the break for the full email.…

Reports yesterday have revealed that Apple’s battery replacement service for the iPad will actually consist of them replacing the device with a new one (or a refurb at least) for a service fee rather than them replacing the battery.…
Read MoreiPad en-route… pre-ordered today so it’ll be with us early April
Much to Steve’s disappointment, I have been fortunate enough to nab myself an iPad during today’s pre-orders.
As you can see I got the 16GB Wi-Fi version and I have since ordered the case for it is as well. The camera attachment wasn’t available on the store today, so i’ll have to wait for that (unless it comes out before it is available here) and I will also wait for the docks and other accessories to come to New Zealand before getting them.
I have family in the States so it will be delivered to them on (or around) 3rd April and they are going to express it to New Zealand. So keep your eye on the site and once here we’ll be sure to put it through it’s paces and let you know what we think.
Any devs out there who want to us to test their apps on an actual device before its launch here, just get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
Anyone else order one today? Let us know in the comments below.…
Read MoreEarly bird New Zealand iPad pricing will hit your wallet hard
As pointed out by one of our readers ToshNewZealand.com have listed some early pricing for the iPad in New Zealand. Now the pricing isn’t the official New Zealand pricing by any means, and the devices are imports not NZ sourced (but come with a NZ power cord).
Just for the record…. I am not good at waiting, in fact I am very impatient and have often paid more to get something as soon as possible, but personally for the iPad, I would rather wait for the official pricing (fortunately for me I should to be getting one through family in the US). For those that can’t wait and need it as soon as possible you can order it now from their website for delivery once launched*.
We have created a table of pricing comparing the US price with that of ToshNewZealand.com. According to the current exchange rate, you could be paying up to $309NZD more than our U.S friends…… it’s to be expected that we (NZ) would pay more but it still hurts.
Hit the ‘read more’ link to see the table and tell us what you think in the comments.…
Read MoreiPad will not be available in New Zealand at launch
Well, this is turning into one rollercoaster ride. Since the initial excitement of the announcement we’ve been through lows and highs and here we are back on a bit of a downer again. Apple has this morning announced that the iPad will be available in the US from April 3rd, and some international territories in late April, but alas New Zealand is not among those locations which are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Additional countries (of which we would hope we are one!) are scheduled to get the iPad ‘later this year’. Check out the full press release from Cupertino after the ‘read more’ link, and be sure to tell us what you think about this news and where you might be planning a special iPad-purchasing holiday to in the comments.…
Read MoreApple job listing suggests iBook Store coming to New Zealand after all
Back at the end of January, it looked as though the iBook Store (as announced at the iPad event just days before) was going to be for the US only. While that may well be the case at launch, three lucky countries appear to be almost certainly getting it at some point: and one of them is New Zealand.…
Read MoreSwitching to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch: dispelling the myths
If you currently own and use an Apple mobile device (iPod touch or iPhone / iPhone 3G / iPhone 3GS) and you’re considering upgrading to a newer one or you’ve been given another one as a gift or a warranty replacement, or perhaps you’re even considering switching to an iPad, the question of what to do with all the content you’ve bought and synced to your current device and how to avoid losing it has probably crossed your mind. There are a lot of myths and presumptions floating around out there, largely because iTunes and the way it syncs to your devices is so misunderstood. Here, we’ll try to clear up a lot of those misunderstandings and set the record straight on what’s involved with switching devices.…
Read MoreNo iBooks Store for New Zealand
Sadly, it has transpired that one of the most compelling new features of the iPad (and no doubt a future feature of the iPhone) announced at yesterday’s Apple event won’t be available in New Zealand. The fineprint at apple.com states “iBooks available in the U.S. only” but for how long? A month? A year? Forever? Given how long it took us to get the iTunes Store, could we be in for another mammoth wait? It seems that nobody really wants a slice of the Kiwi book pie and that surprises me given how much we (as a country) love to read and how expensive actual books are here. Here’s hoping the wait won’t be long.…
Read MoreTip: How to change fonts in the Mail app
Apple. They know style, but they do like to push their vision of it in our face a little. Case in point: the Mail app. Possibly the only HTML mail client I know of that has no option to choose a font. But there is a sneaky way around it that doesn’t require jailbreaking or any third-party apps. Read on for our simple but clever tip!…

So now that the Latest Creation event has finished, Apple have updated the Developer Portal and have released OS 3.2 beta.

UPDATE: Notes from 3.2 “Note: iPhone OS 3.2 does not support iPhone and iPod touch devices. It runs only on iPad.”
What the hell! So iPhone OS 3.2 doesn’t work with the iPhone only with the iPad. …

In this edition of iPhone basics we are going to take a look at Web Clips.
