Does anybody know, IF 2D ever get around to actually commissioning the looooong promised 3G network, will it actually be available outside of the three main centres? I mean, to date, customers outside of the main centres are roaming on VF EDGE anyway; can't see VF allowing these customers to roam on their 3G network, so what's going to happen?

Trying to see whether I should continue to stick with 2D or just bail now… If they don't turn on the 3G soon, or it's not available nationwide when it does come, me and my iphone are going to have to jump. And I am LOATHE to go to Telecom or VF…

They have some 3G cell sites up but I don't think it's very widespread. They could just use VFNZ's 3G network as they do 2G.

I am using now 3G on my IPhone and it is fantastic. The latency for HSDPA is around 100ms and porting your landline to VoIP and Teetering will not be a problem. If I will be you I will have a little bit of patience the 3G service will be release soon. 2D wants to make sure that the customer will get the best service and they have enough back-haul to support data intensive usage hw.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2° 3G will be on same freq spectrum as VF? I.e. Limited for iPhone users to main centres on 2100Mhz only. Only XT Will provide nationwide 3G coverage on the current 3G/3GS handsets due to WCDMA850MHz capability. Unless you are spending most of your time in a main centre data speeds are frustratingly slow on an iPhone unless you go XT. My 2 cents.

You make a good point, but they'll have their 2G network as fallback whereas TNZ have nothing.

Unless they offer something very good I don't think it's worth me jumping ship.

Just a quick note, Vodafone NZ don't have EDGE, it's GPRS only.

Having a 2G network as fallback is a silly idea in this day and age, too.
