Hey new to iphones and 2degrees so i don't know what its meant to be like but i used to get messages instantly on my old CDMA phone.
currently i have a iPhone 3GS with 4.2 firmware, and have inputed the settings for MMS and that works fine, no problems.
i don't know what additional things you guys might want to know to help so i'll list some
3G: on
Cellular Data: on
Data Roaming: off
internet Tethering: off
VPN: not connected
But for some reason i will ocassionally not get texts for an hour or so then they will all come in at once, even when my phone displays full reception the whole time.
so are there any settings i need to improve it or any tips?
thanks
TLDR: recieving text messages well after they are sent, help?

I suspect that you are talking about SMS messages that are going between different Telco's? E.g. your mates Vodafone to your 2Degrees?
If you stay within the same network it is fast. I find Vodafone to 2Degrees worse than Telecom to 2Degrees. I suspect there is some buffering or deliberate delays at Vodafone (but I guess they would never admit to it).
