Straight off the 2degrees website:
"You’ll be able to send texts by using the “Cellular Data” menu item in your Settings. Select “SIM Applications”, then “Send a text”. However, you can’t receive texts on an iPad, so you’ll miss out on your 2degrees notifications such as when your credit has run low or when your Data Pack has expired."
Ok so on my Ipad2, i go: Settings, Cellular Data, Sim Applications
and it gives me the options;
Call customer Care
CAll voicemail
Get settings
STK Version
No send text option. So I get on the phone to 2degrees, 1 dude gets me pulling the sim out and cleaning it, 1 tells me its an apple problem, end up ring round the world a few times, back to 2degrees and finally someone said the iPad2 won't let you send txt as a sim application.
So anyone with an ipad2 out there, on any NZ carrier, do you have the option to send txt via the sim application menu?
Thanks
Sean

Hi. I have iPad 2 on 2degrees, and there is option to "Send a Text" in "Sim Application" menu. Maybe try "Get Settings" and see if that option pop up?

Nope not there on mine either. How old is your SIM Kirawat?
It's possible only certain SIM batches have this feature, i got mine on iPad2 NZ release date.

Turns out after talking with POB from 2degrees (he manages the Geekzone and FB profiles) that our SIMs are just faulty and we can get new ones from 2degrees for free. Just call them up on 0800 022 022 and explain the situation.

I got my 2degrees SIM on iPad 2 NZ release date also. Does "Send a Text" show up now with your new SIM card?

Thanks for replies. I posted another topic as I somehow couldn't find my way back to this one & wondered if i hadn't posted properly. So thanks for the re direct!
Thats helpful info thanks. I had been on the phone to 2Deg for about 2 hours total and that stupid Paekakariki song driving me nuts. Of course during this time they blamed Apple, The ipad 2, and made all sorts of bs up. Really gave me the feeling that i was dealing with an overseas call centre. Shame coz they were heaps better when they started up.
Cheers
Sean

The iPad is not a supported tech for 2d, as such they have limited experience dealing with it. I have quite a bit with iPad2 and 2d, if you have any issues please PM me or post here.

Thanks, will do.
On a positive note I managed to get back my old number which had expired after a year of no use after being told it was stuck in limbo for 180 days.

Got it sorted today. They were going to send another sim out, but we determined that my iphone sim worked, so he swapped numbers between ipad and iphone and I swapped the sims over. A bit of lateral thinking on their part.
What i determined in the process was that you can set up a call diversion from your ipad number to ring on your iphone. You needed to put the ipad sim in your phone to set up. Of course why you would want to do this I don't know, since all calls to you would cost 20c/min from your ipad number!
