I understand your concerns on the incentive for downloading. But I can assure you it's not about downloading but about reviews. If you already downloaded the app, its even better, than you win even more.
The thing is, that if you are a developer you need to get initial trust for your app in every app store. And there are 90 country app stores. Most developers that I know, have friends of theirs download their apps in their country and rate it (mostly 5 stars, as friends are really biased). And this is really not the best thing for the everyone else on the app store. At the same time the app is totally invisible in 89 other countries. This way, most people dont even get to know great apps, as they've never got visible in their country. So what developers really need are just a small bunch people who review their apps around the world.
This way everyone wins. Users having better initial reviews, than the one written by friends or the developers themselves. Developers win by having better feedback, knowing what to improve and finally having more customers. And Apple get an app store full of authentic reviews, which increases their quality.
Users on workhub.com/appiration are really free to give their authentic opinion. The only thing we ask for, is that if you criticize, you tell the developers what they can do to improve.
For all of you concerned about the getting the money. The money comes from developers (obviously). There will be free apps to review first, so you can be sure not to get tricked.
