Having purchased a reasonable amount of apps I decided to review a heap of them that I hadn't yet bothered reviewing…
I must have submitted around 20 or so reviews in the last few hours – but it's been kinda fun.
One thing I did notice however was a trend where people were saying things like "what a waste of money" which made me kind of angry in some ways when I looked and the price of the app to begin with and many being a mere 99 cents! (which translate to $1.29 for us in NZ.)
Now I realise of course that there's bound to be many youngsters out there who may still consider that a fair swag of money but surely realistically, speaking as an adult, this small price, approximately what, a third or quater or a price of a cup of coffee, and certainly less than a litre of gas at the petrol station or water at the supermarket, is mimimal.
I have "utility" apps that I use on a daily basis which are of utmost use and value to me and many many games which have provided many hours of enjoyment which, when worked out on an hourly rate, is such a tiny price to pay (we get down to fractions of cents per hour!).
Around the middle of last year I purchased a PC game (new release) which cost over $100 to buy and I got about 20 hours of gameplay out of that. It's now uninstalled and won't be re-installed. I simply say to myself that the approx $5 per hour for all that entertainment has been money well spent. (my wife might say other things of course!)
Around the same time I purchased an iPad (my first and only iiDevice… so far…) and have not bought a PC game since and now while away spare time with games on the ipad – albeit much simpler games of course – but certainly no less enjoyable – and a heck of a lot cheaper. As far as I am concerned I am "laughing all the way to the bank" currently using the iDevice as an entertainment / gaming console (as well as other more utilitarian tasks etc)
I've actually caught myself looking at the price of an app at say $10 or $13 and thinking to myself "ohhhh that's expensive – will I or won't I" and then have come to my senses and thought about how much I've paid for PC software over the years – or that it costs way more than that for 1.5 hours of entertainment at the nearest movie theatre etc…
Without wanting to touch on the subject of socio-economics and how much disposable incomes people may or may not have etc I would be interested to see how other peope view app pricing – especially in relation to the comments some people put in their reviews when they don't like the app or it doesn't meet their need!
