Is now available in the NZ App store.
We are seemingly the 1st country in the world to be able to download it.
I got the notification via Twitter via Macrumours just a few minutes ago.
The cost is a whopping $119.95 however which compares with Sygics $84 for maps that include Australia.
There is no mention of the additional hardware that was mentioned at the WWDC as the Iphone 3Gs was launched : Edit did find a button somewhere to say it was coming soon….
Mentions IQ routes and mentions POI's and speed cameras
Edit: Couldnt resist and have downloaded it and being playing withit in the lounge.
No voice names of streets noticed.
demo mode is fun so far.
Voice appears clear to follow.
Routes seem logical.
I dont have the car mount mount yet-it is ordered via Magnum mac to test veracity and functionality

Have you had a chance to test it out yet?
Does it have lane assist?

Unlike the Sygic app this has been clearly developed for the iPhone (Sygic seems like a pre-written software recoded for iPhone)
What I would like to see in a GPS app is, if you rotate your phone upside down (180º) the app rotates too, then I can use the unit in my tank bag on my bike as well as in my car (since iphone headphone jack is on the top)
Also sygic takes along time to aquire GPS signal and it is quite jerky when turning corners etc.
I will be downloading a jailbroken version before I buy it (Cummon Apple, WTB app trials)

Did 2 trips into town this morning to Magnum mac to check iof the vent mount had arrived.
Bit fiddly to enter destination but im sure with experience I will get better. I used the contact details but it didnt like the formatting.
Actually driving with the Iphone on the front seat was ok.
The directions were clear and timely with a repeat message just before the turn.
I deliberately went the wrong way and I was redirected fine.
The mapping was clear and smooth. The Speed camera came up just before I hit this known one.
However coming home I took a different route. Changes had been made on the Te Rapa Bye pass in the last few months and Im afraid the app had "kittens" and didnt know what to do.
Other than that a good experience. The vent mount was very good too which I used on the way home

I couldnt resist and downloaded it.
Tested it on a trip out to Muriwai Beach to pick up a trademe purchase. It was great, plenty of warning for turns and double reminders etc etc.
Only thing that bugged me was when approching my destination it just goes "In 300 metres…" and thats it
Switched to American voice to see if it changes anything. The kiwi voice sounded more Aussie anyways.

I actually bought this app and I find that it was pretty good except compared to a real TomTom device is that the iPhone App is the one who need upgrading. Anyway I hope TomTom is working on it and I ain't gonna be happy if I found no update for $120NZD app. The real problem is that I think we really need the TomTom car kit when using this thing because it drained my iPhone battery fast. I know there are car chargers for the iPhone but I couldn't bother with that until TomTom car kit is released.

We own the TomTom 720 navigation unit which in my wife's car and it does a pretty good job with the navigation and the built in hands free bluetooth feature. Now i have a iphone and am considering buying a Navman/ TomTom navigation unit or should i download the Synergy/ TomTom app. I had been to the Harvey Norman and checked out the Navman and what I liked with the Navman's navigation unit is that it also dose "live traffic updates" which tells you about traffic jams on your route. Does anyone know if the TomTom iphone app is it just like the software on the TomTom 720 navigation unit/ is it better? Does it have the live traffic updates? How about the Synergy does it do live traffic updates as well?

Seems Tomtom are full of false promise. Still, at least I have not paid 120 bucks for an outdated featureless beta……….
The maps are still out of date, do not include many fixed speed cameras, out of date POI's, incorrect speed limits and seems to get address positions/side of the road wrong. Last night it failed to direct me over the second harbour bridge entrance and exit (Tauranga) as in tomtom world this does not exist, it also directed me to a petrol station which closed over two years ago, lost position on a few corners, and tells me my house is 30m up the road on the other side of the road?!?!
The NZ map info is so out of date you gotta wonder if the mapping co. (Geosmart) which tomtom purchased it from have been asleep for the last 2-3 years?
Still waiting for that car kit, the one due for release in summer, then moved to October, October is almost gone and……no sign of it in NZ and pre-order only in UK/US Apple stores. Tomtom = hot air

Just to follow up.
Version 1.1 of the app does not have an updated map at all, it still has map v8.30 which is so out of date.
For some reason Tomtom have not included the latest map v8.35 in the app.
I can only put this down to greed, they will additionally charge you for the latest map.
From Tomtom FAQ
"Currently the app comes bundled with TomTom v8.30 maps. TomTom releases new maps four times a year, so whenever you purchase the app you will have the most up-to-date map."
Clearly this is bull, they have released a new map but not for the iPhone. Tomtom are just plain greedy.

Just called Tomtom ref map updates -
Map updates will not be included with the App updates, the map version at the time of purchase of the app is what you are stuck with (despite it being out of date when purchased).
You will need to re-purchse the app to get the newer map, this facility to re-purchse the app with newer map is currently not available so please dont go deleting the app as it will just download the same version for free when you try to re-purchase it.
I hope Tomtom loose business due to this greed.

I have downloaded this app via differing means. It is not working though, opens then closes within 3 seconds. Anyone got any ideas?
