Hi. I want to buy an iPhone. Seeing it has email on it, will it use up all my data for the month? Seeing I'm on prepay, I only have 100MB. I have a Vodafone Android mobile at the moment, and when I was reading my emails on that, it chewed up my data, so I stopped it from collecting my emails. Can I make it so that I can also connect an iPhone to my house wi-fi like I do with my iPod? That way I can read my emails when I'm at home, and the data won't come off my 100MB prepay. It will come off my broadband like my iPod does won't it? I've just joined, so hope someone can help, thanks  Smile

I can't get this to post, not sure how to work it, so if it ends up in the wrong area, sorry Surprised

Welcome to the forums.

You can set an iPhone to collect your email only when you open the mail app ("manually", you may be able to test it on the iPod), so if you only open the mail app at home when you have wifi, it should only use wifi. That said, many things an iPhone does uses data. as long as you're a wee bit carefull 100MB should see you through a month no worries. I sometimes use under 100MB by accident. Worst case, you could turn off cellular data if you've used too much.

Vodafone has a fairly good app for keeping track of usage.

If you decide to get an iPhone, and need direction setting it up, you can always come here for help.

As for the trouble posting, thats likely because you're new. All new users need the first post to be approved, it helps limit spam in the forums. You should have no trouble now …unless you spam us Wink.

thanks for that Andrew Smile.  I only really want to use it as a mobile, put a few songs on, occassionally check my emails when I'm out, and download the odd application to keep an eye on the live tennis or something. I will mainly check my emails when I'm home so it will come off my wi-fi. So if I'm only going to use the iPhone for those few things, will that still use alot of data? I'm with 2degrees, not Vodafone. What sort of things use all the data up? Only when u r on the net? Or normal things when u use the iPhone itself? I already have an iPod, which is full of songs, applications, videos etc (only has about 100MB left). So don't think I will use everything on the iPhone. But then that's why I want an iPhone. Cause the memory is full on my iPod, and the iPhone is pretty much an iPod and mobile in one isn't it? Thanks for your help.
