have converted to it , using ical, and away from paper for my client appointments, daily logs etc.
I back up to silver surfer (macpro) laptop most nites (thankfully) as I now find it has started munching my past calendar entries…whole days gone out of months, entries disappeared; am now too scared to synch it with lappie, might lose all data.
Only new things I have done recently: was last nite downloaded heaps of music from lappie to iphone, intending to use it more instead of MP3 player…have I overloaded the memory?? and a few days ago downloaded my first 5 apps….
A bit scary; was going to go totally paperless and start using an ipad for meeting notes…maybe not??!!
Anyone else had this problem with ical?
cheers (and yes I voted!)

Chrisg here again; I may have sorted this …there seems to be an option on the lappie to limit the number of days the iphone will carry synched calendars, is this because its memory is not enough to carry ongoing (non-emptying) calendar entries? Ie could it carry a year of appointments?
Anyhoo, I tried making the limit 240 days (instead of 30 which someone had set it at) and then synched from Ical on silver surfer (macpro) to iphone, and there was my data!!!
So the question now is how do I find out if the iphone will hold a year worth of appointments? Is it just a matter of watching the memory capacity thingie at the bottom of the screen when I synch phone to silver surfer?

Hey Chris,
There's truckloads of memory on an iPhone, and calendar events take up very little space. Your iPhone could easily carry a year's worth of appointments :)
I did have a similar issue with iCal a few months ago. I eventually backed-up my iPhone (right-click your iPhone under 'Devices' in the left-hand sidebar of iTunes and select 'Backup…') then I hit the 'Restore' button. After my iPhone had been wiped iTunes asked if I wanted to restore my iPhone from the backup, I said yes and my problems were magically fixed.

Chris, there is an option that allows you to specify how much data is synchronised to your iPhone Calendar.
If sync via iTunes then you can specify "Do not sync events older than X days", I think the default for X is 30.
This is in the info tab on iTunes when iPhone is connected.

Hello again after omg so many monthx (years) without checking back w this forum. Thankyou for replies; I still have the problem; I now have multiple copies of appmt entries on the macpro. Local Mac shop teccies have no fix to suggest. I legally am reqd to retain 10 yrs of appmt data am sure there is capacity, but don't know how to get it saved cleanly. I set up iph w repeating forever time slots and then enter names and save 'for this date only'. But when I backup to macpro it doesn't seem to replace the forever blanks, and just keeps saving all. Ie say mon at 10 am, plus person a, then if that person cancells and is replaced w person b, saves that too; I get New Entry,Person a and b all saved at 10 on mon. aarrghh any help?! Go back to a paper diary?! Surely not!! Cheers all Chris
