I'm having the above issue & the only way I can resolve it is by resetting my network settings, or turning on "Cellular Data" which I don't want as then I pay for casual data use on VF (I use a mobile Hotspot).
The phone works most of the time, but if I go in to a no coverage area & then to a coverage area it seems to loose the VF network until I do the reset etc. This is only since IOS5. I've tried the APN reset & also changing to 2Degrees for Data (As a fake option for data), but to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

im on 2degrees having the same issue on my 32gb 4S.
i constantly have "searching.." and it rarely picking up a signal. the sim is not faulty as it works in another iphone (4 though). i rung apple and they were confused as to why it wasn't working. i restored my iphone 2 times but still no change. i tried a third time and now it is stuck in recovery mode and has the error message -1.
apple suggested that i take it back to the shop. but that they would probably advise me to call apple in which case i will be without a phone for who knows how long. if anyone has any idea of how i can fix this it would be greatly appreciated!
