I have just loaded ios4 onto my iphone 3gs 16.

I now can no longer access data on 3G " could not activate cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a cellular data service"

Everything works fine on wifi.

I rang telecom, who is my service provider, they very politely told me they could not help as they do not support iphone.

Does anyone know how to remedy this please.

Firstly.. Telecom generally won't help if you tell them you have an iPhone as they don't officially support it.

On to your issue, after you updated did you manually load the data settings back in? If not you need to do this before it will work. HAve a read here: http://www.iphonewzealand.co.n…..-settings/

If you have already manually entered the settings check that they are still there. Sometimes iOS 4 loses the settings and sometimes they can take a while to 'stick'.

Mate, you are aw sum!

I followed your instructions and it worked, first time.

I owe you one. The stress levels have drastically reduced.

Cheers, Bruce Dick.

i have had same problem with my 32GS and XT, unfortunately entering the manual settings from your link above doesn't seem to have solved the problem

and have you gone back and checked that the settings have 'stuck'?

Also check that Cellular Data is switched on and that 3G is switched on as well.

Hi Dan.  Have followed your instructions etc above and all is good with ios4 data connectivity now.   Many thanks!

One small issue remains – I am having trouble on your web app page when trying to set up an icon for voicemail….  any hints?

The instructions say

Tap here then tap cancel (ok so far)

Then tap "+"and add to homescreen.   (I come unstuck here)

the message on the iphone screen is

"Add this page as a WebClip to add a speed dial entry to your iPhone Home Screen"

There is no "+" to tap and in fact I can't do anything other than close the App down.

Thanks again.   Paul

At the bottom of the page on the navigation bar there is a + which you use for bookmarks, tap that.

I also have been having trouble with my carrier settings not 'sticking' – it's just the APN entry (internet.telecom.co.nz) that doesn't stick. I've followed your instructions repeatedly and when I go back in to check, the APN settings are gone again. About once in a dozen times, they will stick and I think yay, great it's all OK now. Then the next day I'll try to access the internet and discover I can't and when I check the carrier settings again the APN setting is gone again. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.

I phoned Apple support and they got me to reset the phone completely and restore from backup. After that it worked (so I thought) but within a few hours / a day the APN settings had gone again!

Do you think the problem is iPhone hardware? Or OS4? Or is it the sim card?

Can anyone help?

Regards

Ross

I notice if I pull the sim out it loses all the carrier settings. Was awesome being able to hot swap before with carrier bundles… However maybe your sim is dodgy if it keeps losing your carrier settings?

Well, I tried pulling the sim out and cleaning it and putting it back in. Still got the same problem. I suppose it COULD be a dodgy sim, but it's worth noting that these problems only occurred after upgrading to OS4

Grrr – i am having the same problem! Upgraded to iOS 4 yesterday and lost settings today – really unhelpful when i was out of the office and needed access to email, and no settings, and no way to get the settings without 3g access. Have now downloaded settings app so i always have them on me.

My XT card is pretty new and given others are having the same problem i reckon it's the OS software.

Wish i'd never upgraded!
